Box Score BANGOR, ME – Mollie Roy's (Hermon, ME) goal with a minute remaining broke a 2-2 tie to give the Husson University women's soccer team a 3-2 win over Maine Maritime on Saturday evening at Boucher Field. Husson improves to 6-4-0 overall and 3-1-0 in North Atlantic Conference play with the win while Maine Maritime goes to 3-7-0 and 1-3-0.
Roy hit a hard, rising shot from near the endline about 20 yards out that curved and beat the Maine Maritime goalkeeper in the 89th minute.
Roy's game-winner came after Maine Maritime's Victoria Cooper had tied the contest on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute.
Leah Hibbad (Portsmouth, RI) gave the Eagles the lead in the 41st minute when she hit a hard shot that the goalie saved, but sent the rebound right back to Hibbad who buried it.
Following a Mariners' goal by Morgan Libby in the 48th minute, Taylor Fortin (Goffstown, NH) sent a through-ball to Hibbad who again delivered a hard shot into the upper netting to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead in the 59th minute.
"Our will to win was huge today, and our team stepped it up throughout the match to get us there," said Husson head coach Carly Gettler. "MMA always gives us a tough game, and I'm pleased with how we rose to the challenge and ultimately prevailed."
Jess Poulin (Albion, ME) made four saves in net for the Eagles while Kelsie Hilton stopped 14 shots for Maine Maritime.
Husson returns to action on Tuesday when the Eagles host Thomas for a 5 p.m. game.
