Field Hockey Defeats NEC 8-0; Finishes 5-0 in NAC Play to Clinch Top Seed

Box Score

BANGOR, ME – Libby Kain (Dexter, ME) notched a hat trick to lead the Husson University field hockey team to an 8-0 win over New England College on Saturday afternoon at the Winkin Sports Complex. With the win, Husson improves to 7-8 overall and finishes North Atlantic Conference play with a 5-0 record, clinching the top seed in the NAC Tournament. The Eagles will host Castleton in a semifinal contest on Saturday. New England College falls to 0-19 and 0-5 in league play.

Kain gave the Eagles the lead that they would not relinquish 45 seconds into the game when she took a feed from Taylor Lovley (Newport, ME) and buried it in the back of the cage.

Kain notched her second tally of the game nine minutes later with an assist courtesy of Mikayla Toth (Skowhegan, ME).

Lindsey Arno (Dover-Foxcroft, ME) scored Husson's third goal in the 21st minute as her shot deflected in off a Pilgrim defender and into the net.

Elizabeth Terry (Lebanon, ME) scored in the 25th minute with Lovley notching her second assist of the game and Annika Durrell (Livermore, ME) converted a penalty stroke goal in the 27th minute to put Husson up 5-0 at halftime.

Kain completed her hat trick in the 48th minute while Durrell notched her second of the game in the 54th minute with an assist from Whitney Arno (Dover-Foxcroft, ME).

Melissa Souza (East Bridgewater, MA) completed the scoring in the 57th minute with the assist from Taylor Shaw (Plymouth, ME).

Abby Greenleaf (Newfield, ME) and Kaitlin Dolloff (Richmond, RI) combined for the shutout and the stingy Husson defense did not allow a shot.

Michaela Clark made 32 saves for New England College.

"Today was a great game to won on the little things," said Husson head coach Maddie Hoeppner. "We still have a lot to work on but we will be able to do that in the time off before the Tournament. It was great to have so many different players contribute today."

Notes: The Eagles did not give up a goal in conference play, marking the first time a team has done that in league history dating back to 2004.
