Box Score Farmington, ME - Husson women's basketball picked up an important North Atlantic Conference win at the University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday night to end a four game losing streak and improve to 3-2 in the NAC (4-6 overall). The Eagles won 50-43 on the road at Dearborn Gym, and, with the loss, UMaine-Farmington falls to 5-9 (4-3 NAC).
First year standout Chandler Guerette (Presque Isle, ME) led the way for the Eagles with a season-high 24 points. She also grabbed an astounding game-high seven steals and chipped in with six rebounds, two assists, and one block. Victoria McIntyre (Mars Hill, ME) led the Eagles' defense with 12 rebounds, and she was the second leading scorer for Husson with eight points on the night.
UMaine-Farmington's Lindsay Ranquist finished with a team-high 16 points, with Meghan Smith chipping in with eight points and a team-high seven boards. Holly Oliver handed out four assists.
The Beavers jumped out to a 13-2 lead by the 12:47 mark of the first half after a pair of Ayla Allen foul shots. Farmington's cause was helped along by plenty of early foul trouble for Husson, who quickly earned 10 fouls to UMF's none.
Husson turned things around and outscored UMaine-Farmington over the remainder of the opening frame, sending the teams into the locker room tied 20-20.
The second half saw seven ties and eight lead changes, with Husson finally pulling ahead for good, 45-42, on a Guerette 3-pointer with 2:17 remaining.
Smith hit one of her two free throws at the other end of the floor to cut the margin to two points, but a McIntyre layup extended the Eagles' lead to 47-43.
UMaine-Farmington was held scoreless over the final two minutes, with Kathryn Brochu (Bangor, ME) connecting on a pair of free throws with 24 seconds left in the game to ice the win.
UMaine-Farmington returns to the court on Saturday, January 18, when it hosts Thomas College. Husson will host Colby-Sawyer College on Friday, January 17, at 7:30 PM, and will turn around to host New England College on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
