Box Score Bangor, ME- Husson Field Hockey took a come-from-behind win Wednesday night from the Bobcats of Bates College after trailing 1-0 for most of the game. Liz Noddin scored for the Eagles of a Mariah Arno pass just 53 seconds into the extra frame to seal the 2-1 sudden victory win.
Bates opened the scoring from Isobel Curtis who received a pass from Bridget Meedzan to put the Bobcats up 1-0 in the 11th minute.
Both teams had numerous chances to score as the game developed including the Eagles who saw shots on cage from Taylor Lovely, Britt Mellor, Sabrina Vaillancourt, Arno and Melissa Souza. The teams would enter halftime with the 1-0 score.
Fifteen minutes into the second half Sabrina Vaillancourt, along with several others from Husson had multiple tries on net in a crazy scrum in front of the keeper. Finally, Vaillancourt put a final touch on a ball that went beneath keeper Becca Otley and in for the tying goal.
The teams remained knotted at 1-1 through the end of regulation and entered the 7-on-7, 15 minutes overtime format after 70 minutes.
Husson needed less than a minute, scoring in the 71st, as the Eagles screamed down the right sideline, found Arno who carried all the way into the box, forcing the one remaining defender to commit, and feeding to a wide open Liz Noddin who put a rocket past Otley for the win.
"It was so exciting to get a win tonight under the lights by such a supportive crowd. Everyone came ready to play and ready to perform their best," said Head Coach Jen Johnstone, "In particular our seniors were dynamic leaders all over the field and showed tremendous decision making and poise. Playing our best hockey was evident tonight and will continue to be our goal each time we take the field."
Otley made 14 saves on 16 Husson shots on net, while first-year keeper Kaitlin Dolloff had three saves on four shots in the first half and Maicee Gustin turned away all four shots on cage she saw in the second half and overtime.
Husson improves now to 3-2 on the year and 4-6 all time vs. the Bobcats. Bates falls to 1-2 with the loss.
