Box Score Bangor, ME – Husson field hockey fell in their home opener Saturday afternoon at the Winkin Complex to Wellesley College by a final of 9-1. Husson's lone goal came off the stick of Sabrina Vaillancourt for her 50th career goal as an Eagle.
Wellesley scored five times in the first half by way of Hannah Flesch, Courtney Peterson, Anissa Sridhar and two from Nikki Sharkin.
The Eagles were outshot 23-20 on the afternoon, managing several quality opportunities. Both Blue goalies Becky Hamilton and Brit Mscisz played extremely well, denying several goal line chances the Eagles had.
Vaillancourt, the only player in program history to reach the 50-goal plateau, scored the lone goal for Husson with just under four minutes left to play. First-year Taylor Lovely put two of her four shots on net along with Mariah Arno's four out of five on cage. Vaillancourt was the top performer for the Eagles on offense, putting five shots on goal out of a team high seven.
The Eagles look to bounce back Sunday, September 1st at home vs. the University of New England at 2pm.
