Eagles Take One Game of a Doubleheader with Thomas

Waterville, ME- Husson baseball split their doubleheader with Thomas College Thursday night. The Terriers took the first game 4-2, The Eagles swooped in for an extra inning victory 6-4 in the night cap. 

Game 1:

The early stages of the game were dominated by both starting pitchers, as neither team was able to create any offense. Thomas would crack the score in the bottom of the fourth, scoring all four of their runs. Dillon Emerson drove in Jeffrey Richardson for the first run of the game, then Thomas Cameron would plate home Cody Vigue on a single to left. A double by John Charves would score Cameron and Emerson to give the Terriers a 4-0 lead.

Husson responded in the next half inning with two runs however, as J.T. Whitten (Waterville, ME) drove in two RBI with a single to left field.

Pat McEwen (Brewer, ME) was charged with the loss, going six innings with three earned runs, striking out one.

Pat Thibodeau (Caribou, ME) went 3-3 at the plate, scoring one run in the losing effort for Husson.

Game 2:

Husson would get on the board first in the second contest, scoring two runs in the top of the third. Pat Thibodeau drove in one with a single to center field, then Dylan Foster (Oakland, ME) grounded out to the short stop and score Cody McInnis (Bangor, ME) from third.

The Eagles added two more to their lead in the top of the fifth, with Shawn Smith (Winterport, ME) reaching on an error by the shortstop, scoring McInnis from third. Thibodeau would cross the plate giving Husson a 4-0 lead on a single to center by Kyle Bishop (Waterville, ME).

Thomas would add four runs in the bottom of the sixth to bring the game to a 4-4 deadlock. Vigue broke the shutout with a double to left center that scored Richardson and Anree Benitez. Cameron would then reach first on an error by the second baseman that would drive in Vigue. A double by Nik Beeson scored the pinch runner Nate Peasley from second to tie the ballgame.

In the bottom of the seventh Thomas had the winning run on second in Dillon Dunbar when Richardson drove a liner to left center. Dunbar rounded third looking to complete the dramatic comeback but was gunned down at home by the strong arm of Foster in left. 

Smith would break the tie for Husson on a two-run homer to left field in the top of the eighth.

Brandon Reilly (Pemaquid, ME) got the win, throwing seven inning of nine hit ball, giving up two earned runs on four strikeouts. Dan Whitney (Bethel, ME) shut down Thomas' offense to get the save.

Husson stands at 14-16 overall on the season and 9-5 in North Atlantic Conference play. They will travel to Lyndon State for double headers on both Saturday and Sunday.
