Eagles Unable to Capitalize on Early Momentum; Drop Home Opener

Box Score

Bangor, ME - Husson men's lacrosse came out ready to go Wednesday afternoon at Boucher Field, but their early momentum wouldn't hold up against the Anna Maria AMCATS falling 8-6.

Mitch Heaps (York, PA) put Husson on the board quickly in the first few seconds of the game, from a Dillon Shaw (Augusta, ME) pass, to put the Eagles up 1-0. Three minutes later the AMCATS answered back when Scott Henry snuck one past goalkeeper John Hooper III (Wakefield, RI) to tie it up 1-1.

Eagle Dustin Brett (Loudon, NH) found the back of the net off an Alex Ryan (Northfield, NH) pass making it 3-1 just seconds later and Brandon Corbo (Merrimack, NH) took it in for a goal unassisted with a little over 5 minutes left in the 1st quarter to put Husson up 3-1.

Unfortunately for the Eagles the 2nd quarter was all AMCATS. Anna Maria scored 4 times in the 2nd quarter, first when Jason Baker connected to Justin Edson for a scoring play to make it 3-2. Chris Summers sank a pass from Rod Henriques tying it up at 3-3. Then Baker and Henriques both added their own unassisted goals making it 5-3 AMCATS.

The 3rd saw Ryan scored his own unassisted goal, closing the lead down to 5-4 and then Kevin Nolan (Norwood, MA) tossed one in from Corbo tying it up at 5-5. The AMCATS weren't content relinquishing the lead. Baker scored his second goal of the game unassisted putting Anna Maria up 6-5 heading into the 4th quarter.

Heap countered with his second goal of the game after a pass from Chris DelGiudice (Oakland, ME) making it 6-6. Anna Maria silenced the Eagles cry scoring two unanswered goals to solidify the victory, Scott Henry and Lucas Stralka added the last two points for the AMCATS, both on Chris Summer assists.

Husson lead the game in ground balls (33-20), and face offs won 15 to 1. Anna Maria edged out the Eagles in shots, 26-24.

Joshua Giarrantano earned the win in goal for the AMCATS, and Hooper falls to 0-2 on the season with this loss in net.

The Eagles fall to 0-2 overall on the season and will travel to Mount Saint Mary (NY) next Monday, March 11th, for a game set at 7:00 PM.
