Box Score Worcester, MA – North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Week Brandon Corbo (Merrimack, NH) led the Eagles with two goals and an assist, but it wasn't enough to push Husson men's lacrosse past non-conference opponent Clark University on Wednesday evening. The host Cougars (5-2) raced out to a 6-1 lead and never looked back, taking a 10-5 decision over Husson (2-4).
Keegan Callahan (Tewksbury, MA) and Peter Christiansen (Seattle, WA) each registered goals in the game's first two minutes to give Clark an early lead. Husson's Dustin Brett (Loudon, NH) cut the Cougar advantage in half with his third goal of the season, but Jon Spencer (Hollis, NH) answered back with a slick one-on-one move that helped him bump the Clark lead to 3-1.
Nick Figliola (Weston, CT) and Luke Dunn (Amherst, MA) each collected unassisted scores to end the first period, giving the Scarlet and White a 5-1 edge.
That lead increased to 6-1 five minutes into the second quarter when Jeffrey Wasson (Buckhorn, Ontario) recorded the 70th marker of his career. The Eagles stole some of the momentum back before halftime as Chris Pelletier (Rome, ME) made the score 6-2 with less than a minute to go in the half.
Clark wasted little time getting on the board in the second half as Figliola scored his second of the night less than three minutes in, but Husson tightened the score with tallies from Mitch Heaps (York, PA) and Corbo making the score, 7-4.
As the Eagles had at the end of the second, the Cougars got a goal in the final minute of the third as Wasson collected his second of the game in the waning seconds of the frame.
Corbo brought Husson closer midway through the fourth with an unassisted score, but the Cougars got goals from Christiansen and Callahan in the final two minutes to secure the victory.
Ranta recorded his fourth consecutive contest with double figure saves, racking up ten to go along a team-best seven groundballs.
The Eagles outshot Clark 37-28 and won 12 of the 17 faceoffs. Dillon Shaw (Augusta, ME) was strong in the midfield for Husson, winning all 12 of the Eagles' faceoffs and corralling a game-high 12 groundballs. John Hooper III (Wakefield, RI) turned back 11 shots for the visitors.
Callahan, Christiansen, Figliola and Wasson all totaled two goals for the Cougars, who had six different players score their ten goals.
Clark returns to action on Saturday night when they open up Pilgrim League play with a home contest against Wheaton, while the Eagles host Curry on Saturday at 1 PM in another non-conference game.
