Box Score 2 Bangor, ME – Husson baseball found momentum to propel themselves to victory in game 2 of the doubleheader 5-3, after falling in game 1, 10-2.
Game 1 -
The Bobcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st when Griff Tewksbury doubled bringing in Ryan Sonberg. In the top of the 3rd the Bobcats scored 6 more runs to go up 6-0. Bates saw their offense score 1 run in each of the next three innings, making it 9-0.
The Eagles got their first run in the 6th inning when Dylan Foster (Oakland, ME) singled up the middle batting in Benjamin McLain (Pemaquid, ME) making it 9-1.
With the Bobcats scoring one more run, the Eagles entered the bottom of the 9th down 10-1. Zachary Yates (Newport, RI) singled to left center and Cody Cross (Old Town, ME) scored making it 10-2, the Eagles could not muster up any additional offense and set their sights on game 2.
Pat McEwen (Brewer, ME) got tagged with the loss for the Eagles, going 4 innings, allowing 8 hits, and 6 earned runs. Kyle Bishop (Waterville, ME) who came in for 3 innings gave up 6 hits and 2 earned runs, and Adam Landwehr (Camden, ME) pitched the final two innings throwing 10 strikes out of 17 pitches. Brad Reynolds earned the win for the Bobcats, going 6 innings.
Game 2 –
Right handed pitcher Brandon Reilly (Pemaquid, ME) took the mound in game 2. He held the Bobcats scoreless for the first 5th innings, allowing the Eagles some time to build a lead.
The Eagles scored 3 in the bottom of the 3rd. Yates singled to center field bringing in Cody McInnis (Bangor, ME). Then Shawn Smith (Winterport, ME) doubled to left center bringing in both Yates and Pat Thibodeau (Caribou, ME).
Sonberg homered to left for the Bobcats in the top of the 6th to make it 3-1. Josh Gaudette (Waterville, ME) flew out to center field on a sacrifice fly, bringing in Smith to make it 4-1. In the bottom of the 7th Smith flew out for his own sacrifice fly, bringing in McInnis for the 5th Eagle run of the day.
Bates scored single runs in both the top of the 8th and 9th, but that would not be enough to overcome the lead established by the resilient Eagles. Smith took the mound in the 9th to earn the save and Reilly earned the win.
Offensively Smith went 3-3, scoring 1 run and batting in 3 runs. Bishop went 2-3, while The Eagles stole 5 bases on the day; Yates, Thibodeau, Smith, and McInnis stealing 2.
Defensively the Eagles were on point seeing Brandon Gendreau (Brewer, ME), Benjamin McLain and McInnis turn double plays.
With today's games the Eagles are 4-7 on the season, and will host Saint Joseph's College of Maine for one game this Thursday, March 28th at 1:00 PM.
