Box Score Bangor, ME - Husson women's basketball fought back from a 12-point deficit against NAC opponent New England College Sunday afternoon but fell short losing 63-54.
The Pilgrims jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first few minutes but Husson hung in the game going into the second half down 30-22.
Husson's defense produced significant stops capitalizing on NEC's 18 turnovers and slowly closed the lead down to 42-40 with a little under 11 minutes remaining. Amanda Johnson (Skowhegan, ME) sank a 3-pointer to give Husson a one-point advantage and extended the lead by one more with a free throw a minute later. The teams went back and forth with each possession but Husson was unable to match the free throws of the Pilgrims which eventually put them up by 9 points for good.
Victoria McIntyre (Mars Hill, ME) was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals in 34 minutes of play. Rebecca Young (Concord, VT) had 12 points, 9 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 steal in 23 minutes. Kelli Murray (Shawmut, ME) added 9 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals in 40 minutes. Johnson and Stephanie Comstock (Bangor, ME) ended the afternoon with 7 points each.
Kayla Lawlor (Cocoa Beach, FL) had 14 points for the Pilgrims with 7 assists and 2 rebounds in 35 minutes. Taylor Burgess (Randallstown, MD) added 12 of her own points with 9 rebounds in 25 minutes.
The Eagles fall to 7-14 overall and 7-8 in the NAC while the Pilgrims improve to 16-7 and 11-5 in the NAC. Husson will honor their Senior Captain Murray during their final home game of the regular season this Tuesday, February 12th when they host another conference opponent University of Maine at Farmington at 7:30 PM.
