Box Score Waterville, ME – Women's soccer was outdone by non-conference opponent Colby College 8-1, Wednesday afternoon.
Amelia Barnett put Colby on the board quickly in the first half when her shot beat Husson's goalkeeper Jess Poulin (Albion, ME) in the 2nd minute.
The Eagles defense would fend off the shots of the Mules until the 15th minute when Alex Yorke capitalized on an opportunity set up by Ruthie Hawley, putting Colby up 2-0.
Abby Hatch extended the Mule's lead to 3-0 in the 42nd minute, and Cami Notaro sent Colby into the half with a 4-0 lead as time expired.
Colby picked up where they left off the in the second half with goals coming from Hallie Hesslein, Hawley, and Hatch to extend the lead to 7-1.
The Eagles saw their only successful offensive pressure in the 82nd minute when Shaunna Beaudoin (Brookton, ME) won the Eagles a corner kick, and then headed in a goal to evaporate chances of a shutout.
The Mules would add one more goal to clinch the victory at 8-1.
"Colby is a tough opponent, and we knew it would be a midweek challenge, made even tougher by a number of injuries and class conflicts. We did not put our best foot forward today, and it was a disappointing performance from us," said Head Coach Carly Gettler, "I do need to commend Shaunna for creating a few quality chances for us and scoring a big time goal, and MJ, Katie, Erin, Whitney, and Bicknell were solid for us with crucial 90-minute performances."
Poulin and first year Jaclyn MacDonald (Old Orchard Beach, ME) shared time in net, each allowing 4 goals in the Eagle loss.
The Eagles, now 5-7-1 overall on the season, will host NAC opponent New England College this Saturday, October 12th for a 2:30 PM match at Boucher Field.
