Box Score Bangor, ME - Husson field hockey fell to Colby College of Waterville Wednesday night by a final of 5-0. Husson managed 19 shots to Colby's 35, but were only able to direct nine of them on cage. The Mules put 26 of their overall 35 shots on cage in the five goal effort.
Natilie Fishcher scored first for the visiting Mules. A call on a last ditch effort save on the goal line resulted in a penalty stroke for Colby. Fishcher toed the penalty marker and caged the game's first goal past Husson keeper Maicee Gustin.
Both teams would head for the halftime break under the 1-0 score.
Just fifty-five seconds into the second half Megan Fortier made it 2-0 Colby, scoring on a Misha Strage assist. Then, almost 13 minutes later, Fortier Scored yet again unassisted to push the Mule lead to 3-0.
Mckayla Blanch and Erika Johnson both added goals in the final 15 minutes to cap the final of 5-0.
The Eagles had plenty of chances of their own, Liz Noddin put all three shots she fired on cage, along with Taylor Lovely, Sabrina Vaillancourt and Mariah Arno all directing two of their four shots each on goal.
Gustin made 21 saves for the Eagles while Sarah Evans made six saves on six shots and Michelle Burt tallied three saves on three shots, entering the game with just over 14 minutes to go.
"I wish we could have played more consistent and capitalized on some great scoring opportunities," Head coach Jen Johnstone said after the game. "We showed moments of brilliant hockey, but just couldn't finish."
Husson falls to 6-3 overall (3-0 NAC) with the non-conference loss as Colby improves to 5-2 overall.
