Box Score Henniker, NH - The Husson women's basketball team dropped a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game to New England College 57-50 on Friday evening. Husson falls to 1-7 on the season (1-3 NAC) while New England College improves to 9-2 overall (5-0 NAC).
The two teams would battle evenly through much of the opening half before the Pilgrims would use a 7-2 run to go up 23-14 with 6:28 remaining. The Eagles would cut the lead to five late in the half but NEC would score the final six points of the half heading into the intermission up 32-20.
The Eagles had a big second half, scoring 30 points, outscoring their opponent, and bringing themselves within five points of NEC with 24 seconds to play, but it was not quite enough to overcome the Pilgrims.
Chrissy Larrabee (Brooks, ME) made a huge impact for the Eagles, putting up 13 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. Stephanie Comstock (Bangor, ME) added 12 points and 5 rebounds and Victoria McIntyre (Mars Hill, ME) grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds for Husson. Kayla Lawlor was the game's high-scorer with 20 points, and her Pilgrim teammates Stephanie Parker and Taylor Burgess added 13 points and 12 rebounds, respectively.
Husson shot an impressive 71.4% from the free throw line, making 10 of 14 attempts. New England College had a slight advantage in field goal and three point percentage on the night, but the teams were fairly evenly matched statistically.
Both teams will be back in action in the NAC on Saturday, January 5. Husson will play at Colby-Sawyer at 1:00 PM and NEC will host Maine Maritime Academy.
