Box Score Lewiston, ME - Husson field hockey fell to Bates College in Lewiston Wednesday evening, holding the Bobcats to just a single tally in the first 35 mintues. Bates would get the better of the Eagles however, as the Bobcats exploded for seven second half goals on an unfamiliar traditional AstroTurf surface.

The Bobcats had the next three opportunities on goal by way of a Polly Merck shot wide, a Caroline Falcone shot saved by husson keeper Maicee Gustin and the games first goal set up by Grace Reingruber put away by Riley Kundtz. 1-0 Bates.
The rest of the first half would be a stalemate with Husson's Mariah Arno reeling off the next two shots back to back, both to no avail. A few minutes later, Bates' Bridget Meedzan shot wide, followed by two more attempts by Falcone wide and high.
Kara Poirier had a close chance next for Husson, shooting on cage. Goalie Christina Vega ruined Poirier's opportunity by making the save to keep the one goal lead for the Bobcats heading into halftime.
Scoring three goals within the first seven minutes of the second half, Bates forced the Eagles to call timeout to regroup. Allie Philip tucked away a penalty stroke and Falcone caged two of her own, pushing the Bates lead to 4-0.
Anika Durell kept new goalkeeper Becca Otley on her toes, forcing Otley to make a save to keep the Eagles at bay. Falcone added another before Husson could get back on the offensive again as Otley saved another Vaillancourt shot moments later.
Amanda Stubbs stroked wide along with four Otley saves on Husson shots from Renee Tessier, three more solid chances from Vaillancourt along with Melissa Souza seeing a shot of her's defensively blocked in action.
Bates peppered Maicee Gustin with five shots in the final nine minutes, scoring twice and forcing Gustin to make three of her game-high eight saves.
Head Coach Jen Johnstone said of the game: "I am proud of our ladies for their effort tonight against Bates. We had a bunch of scoring chances but just couldn't finish this evening. Any time we have the opportunity to play on AstroTurf it helps highten our level of play and conditioning."
Husson will travel to Waterville Saturday to take on NAC foe Thomas College at 11am and Bates will play NESCAC opponent Hamilton also at 11am on Saturday.
