Husson Takes Game One From Beavers Before Rain Ends Double Dip

Box Score
Farmington, Maine - Husson University rebounded from an early deficit, and held off the University of Maine at Farmington's late charge to take the win 6-5 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division baseball action today at Hippach Field. Originally a doubleheader, game two was called due to rain. No makeup date has been announced.

The Eagles (12-12, 9-4) are headed to Castleton State College on Friday at 2 p.m for the first of a four game series with the Spartans while the Beavers (3-14 overall, 2-7 NEAC East) are scheduled to visit Thomas College Wednesday at 1 p.m. for a NEAC East doubleheader as well.

In the first game, Kyle Vanidestine (Bangor, Maine) singled, doubled and knocked in four runs as Husson collected the 6-5 victory. Vanidestine's two-run double and a Benjamin McLain (Pemaquid, Maine) sacrifice fly gave the Eagles a 5-2 lead in the sixth. After Husson added a run in the seventh, the Beavers' first four batters reached and the hosts tallied three runs to cut the lead to 6-5, but the Eagles managed to get out of the frame with the win. Niko Ververis (Plainsfield, Conn.) clubbed two singles and a triple for the Eagles.

Joe Stanevicz (Bangor, Maine) hurled six innings for the victory with six hits allowed, three walks and five strikeouts. Evan Eldridge (Orland, Maine) threw an inning of relief with two hits and a base on balls.

The advantage stood until Vanidestine plated two runs with a single in the fifth.
