Eagles Stunned in OT Thriller at Curry

Box Score

Milton, MA - The Husson men's lacrosse team fought tooth and nail in a scrappy battle at Curry College, but in the extra frame, it was the Colonels who found a way to win, sending the Eagles back to Bangor with a 7-6 overtime loss. With the loss, Husson falls to 2-2 overall, while Curry improves their record to 3-0.

The Ealges were led by junior midfielder Chris Pelletier (Rome, ME) who picked up a hat trick in the victory. Senior attackman Ben Landry (Lewiston, ME) had two goals, while first year attackman Nolan Brown (Waterford, CT) picked up his first goal as an Eagle. Nick Brown (Fort Worth, TX) had a pair of helpers on the day while Ben Potter (Chula Vista, CA) and Alex Ryan (Northfield, NH) each had an assist.

Curry came out strong to start the game scoring three goals to take an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter.  The Colonels had three different scorers on the run.  Senior Russell Lanham (Silver Spring, MD) was the first to get on the board for his team, freshman John Castellano (Scarsdale, NY) and sophomore Connor Arnold (Clifton Park, NY) had the next two.

Husson scored the last two to cut Curry's lead to just one at the end of the quarter. Both goals came from the stick of Pelletier, the second of which came with just 36 seconds remaining.

The Eagles scored the next two goals to start the second quarter and take over the lead. Pelletier completed the hat-trick with the first, while Landry added the second on an extra man opportunity, putting Husson ahead for the first time in the game.  That lead wouldn't last long as freshman James Newman (New Canaan, CT) scored with five seconds left in the half to even the game heading into the break.

Gallager scored the first goal for Curry to start the third but Husson went on to score two more to once again take over the lead at 6-5.  Landry and Nolan Brown netted the goals for the Eagles.

Curry's senior netminder, Michael Hibbard (Chelmsford, MA) played solid between the pipes in the final quarter, holding Husson scoreless.  It wasn't until the 2:26 mark that his work would have meaning when the Colonels were able to tie the game and send the teams into overtime with the score knotted at 6.  Lanham had the goal off an assist by Castallano.

It took three minutes in overtime before Arnold put the sudden victory game winner in the net for the host Colonels who walked away with the 7-6 overtime win.

The Eagles outshot the Colonels 50-37 and also scooped up 39 ground balls to Curry's 36.

Hibbard made 21 saves for Curry for his third win of the season. Senior John Hooper III (Wakefield, RI) made 15 saves for the Eagles in the loss.

Husson will return home to host Mass Maritime Sunday, March 11 for a 12:00 pm start at Boucher field. Curry will host Anna Maria College on Saturday, March 10 at noon.
