Box Score Bangor, ME- Husson University fell just short Saturday night to Colby-Sawyer falling 2-1 in their final game of the regular season.
Husson got on the board early in the 8th minute of the game when Junior Becca Jones (Newmarket, NH) maneuvered her free kick shot around the wall of defenders and past Colby-Sawyer goalkeeper Shay Spencer (Natick, MA).
Sophomore goalkeeper Jess Poulin had another strong performance in net stopping 5 of the 7 shots she faced including a huge save at 27:35 when she stopped a shot from Chargers Junior Stephanie Huntley (Woodbury, CT) who exploded a ball on net.
Colby-Sawyer finally got past Poulin at 36:50 when Sophomore Michelle Upham (Chelsea, VT) found the back of the net following a corner kick leveling the score at 1-1.
Both teams played the following 48 minutes without scoring. It wasn't until the 85th minute in a confusing play in front of the net that Colby-Sawyer found themselves on top 2-1. On a corner kick the ball was deflected out by Poulin, and then stopped by a Husson defender, however the referees ruled that the defender was inside the net and that Chargers Freshman Tallon Tomasi (Berkshire, VT) had scored what would turn out to be the game-winning goal.
Eagles Head Coach Carly Gettler said after the match, "We are excited to be in a position this season to host a playoff game and we are thrilled to have an opportunity to compete."
Husson finishes their regular season 7-12-0 overall, and 7-2-0 in NAC play.
Prior to the game Husson paid tribute to their Senior Class in a ceremony involving friends and family. Meghan O'Neil (Hartford, VT), Lauren Marcoux (Shawmut, ME), Emily Zurcher (Topsham, ME), Kayleigh Piccirillo (Walpole, NH) and Amanda Mora (Stratford, CT) were honored during their final regular season game at Husson University.
