CASTLETON, Vt. - Husson University dropped an 18-6 loss to Castleton in the NAC Championship game.  Alex Green (Braintree, Vt.) scored five goals and handed out an assist to lead Castleton to the championship at Spartan Stadium Saturday evening.

Green, this season's NAC Rookie of the Year led nine different Spartans in the scoring column, and upped his record-setting season totals to 49 goals and 69 points.

The Spartans set the tone early in the contest, as Tournament Most Valuable Player Craig MacDerment (Clifton Park, N.Y.) won the first three face-offs of the contest and Castleton converted all three into goals to take a 3-0 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining in the opening period. Will Stuhler (Madison, N.J.), Adam Groot (Canandaigua, N.Y.) and Brian McCarthy (Johnson, Vt.) each scored during the opening
rally.

Castleton pushed the lead to 4-0 on Phil Patterson's (Essex, Vt.) 12th goal of the season, before Tony Diaz (Brunswick, Maine) put the Eagles on the board with an unassisted marker with nine minutes remaining.

The Spartans reeled off the next 12 goals, including a 7-0 second period and a 4-0 third. Husson tacked on five goals in the fourth, including a 3-0 run with two goals coming from Ben Landry (Lewiston, Maine).

Patterson finished with three goals, and McCarthy posted a six-point game with two goals and four assists. Sam Bailey scored two goals and had two assists, and provided the most exciting play of the game, a behind-the-head goal to make it 5-1 off a McCarthy assist. NAC Co-Player of the Year Nohea King (St. Albans, Vt.) finished with two goals, while Groot, Stuhler, David Whitlock (Randolph, Vt.) and Derek Riley
(Randolph, Vt.) each posted single goals.

Landry led Husson with four goals, while Diaz and Mitch Heaps (Felton, Pa.) each scored on apiece. 

Dave DeGhetto (Clifton, N.J.) made nine saves and allowed two goals in 51:31, before giving way to Tom Manley (Londonderry, N.H.). Manley allowed two goals and stopped two shots over the final 8:29.

John Hooper (Wakefield, R.I.) started in net for Husson and was lifted after 24:23, stopping eight shots and yielding 10 goals. Eric Lund (Mansfield, Mass.) allowed eight goals and made four saves over the final 35:37.

MacDerment finished 16-for-19 on face-offs, and posted a game-high 17 ground balls controlling possession for the Spartans. For the game Castleton finished 22-of-27 in the face-off circle, while out-shooting the Eagles 57-30.

Castleton improves to 12-6 overall, and advances to the NCAA National Tournament for the second-straight season. The Spartans will learn their opponent on Sunday evening, during the selection show at 10 p.m. aired live on www.ncaa.com.

Husson's season ends at 8-10.
