Box Score Bangor, ME – Husson University held form in game one and picked up a 9-3 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in game one of the NEAC Playoffs from Husson's Winkin Complex. The Eagles got a quality start from their ace, lefthander Ryan Arsenault (Portland, ME) who went 7 strong, allowing just 2 earned on 7 hits and no walks while striking out a pair.
The Eagles jumped ahead with two runs in the home half of the first and never looked back. The Designated Hitter Dylan Foster (Oakland, ME) went 3-4 with a walk out of the leadoff spot, setting the table most of the day, scoring 4 runs and getting an RBI on his inside-the-park homer in the 8th inning. The 2, 3 and 4 hitters led the way offensively as Jake Arthers (Belfast, ME) had a good day at the plate going 2-5 with 3 RBI, while Ethan Guerette (Sabattus, ME) went 1-5 with 2 RBI and a pair of runs scored and Shawn Smith (Winterport, ME) went 3-4 with 2 RBI and scored another.
UMF cut the early lead in half scoring their first run in the top of the 3rd, but Husson answered back with 3 in the third, and then got two more in the fourth before the Beavers got two runs back in the top of the 5th. Maine Farmington racked up 9 hits on the day, and were led by third baseman Alex Goldrup (Waldoboro, ME) who went 2-4 at the plate and came around to score 2 of the 3 Beaver runs. First year relief pitcher Patrick Wrigley (Oakland, ME) came into the game in the 4th to stop the bleeding, and went 4.2, letting up just 2 on 4 hits with a strikeout the rest of the game.
The Eagles advance to face the winner of this evening's contest between Thomas College and Castleton State tomorrow afternoon beginning at 2:00 pm. Farmington will take on the loser of tonight's game tomorrow morning, beginning at 10:00 am.
