Eagles Continue Postseason Winning Tradition

Box Score

Bangor, ME – The Husson University women's soccer team continued it's tradition of postseason winning ways with a 3-0 win over U. Maine Farmington Saturday night at Boucher Field. The Eagles put together an all-around solid effort to earn the NAC Quarterfinal win to advance to Tuesday's Semifinals.

The brisk evening pitch provided a great setting as tensions were high from the first touch. Husson senior forward Alexandra Laniewski had two shots on target for the Eagles in the tenth and eleventh minutes to no avail.

Husson continued to pepper the face of the goal as Marcella Francoeur and Amanda Gifford offered up opportunities as well. Laniewski rifled one that ricocheted off of the crossbar and Farmington goalie Beth Lebel's fingertips, seemingly tiptoeing the goal line and was cleared away.

Laniewski finally put the Eagles on the board at 40:01 as she let loose from ten yards and the ball deflected off a Beaver defender for the notch. Coach Keith Bosley conveyed a spirited halftime speech to his squad as the Eagles came out on a mission in the second half.

Five minutes into the half Emily Zurcher would net one with Katelyn Cloutier providing the opportunity. The shot was one of Zurcher's only two on the game, both of which on net.

Husson kept pace throughout the rest of the frame as Laniewski would net her second of the night in the 77th to seal the win and a spot in the semis.

"Today was the first day where we played the type of game that we aspire to play. I was proud because we combined the physicality and aggressiveness required to compete at this level with high levels of tactic and technique," stated Husson head coach Keith Bosley after the win.

Husson awaits the winner of Colby-Sawyer and Johnson State for a Tuesday, November 1st showdown with a spot in the NAC finals at stake.
