Eagles Win Wet One Over Farmington

Box Score

Bangor, ME - The rain fell harder and harder as the game went on, but it didn't dampen the Eagles' spirits as they were elated after winning the final home game of the 2011 regular season 1-0 over the visiting Beavers of the University of Maine at Farmington. With the win, Husson improves to 6-2 in the North Atlantic Conference (7-9 overall), while UMF drops to 3-4-1 in NAC play.

The Eagles got the lone tally just 2:10 into the game, when Marcella Francoeur (Danville, NH) took a corner kick and served the ball into the zone, which was cleared by the Beavers, but the ball found the feet of Alexandra Laniewski (Scarborough, ME). Laniewski served the ball back to Fancoeur who blasted a shot from 30 yards out that went over the visiting keeper and snuck under the bar for the early score.

Husson played defensively for the rest of the contest, and fended off the Beaver attacks to finish the game with the 1-0 victory. Eagle keeper Jessica Poulin (Albion, ME) made 6 saves to earn the shutout and her 5th win of the year. Her counterpart Beth Label (Lewiston, ME) saved six as well despite earning the loss, and dropping to 3-5 on the season.

Eagles' Head Coach Keith Bosley was happy with the result after the game, "Playing against farmington is always a difficult game, we've been opponents for a long time and it's always a good game. It was very combative. We didn't play our best soccer, but we were fortunate and came out with a win, and that's alays a good thing."

Husson returns to action this weekend when they travel to Colby-Sawer for a 12:30 contest in their final NAC game of the season. The Chargers sit just one point ahead of the Eagles in the standings and Husson could move into 2nd place with a win in New London, NH. The Beavers take the field again on saturday when they host Johnson State at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
