Box Score Castleton, VT - Ryan Arsenault (Portland, ME) pitched five
scoreless innings yielding just two hits in game three of the North
Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division Tournament to lead
Husson University over Lyndon St. College, 9-3, on Saturday
morning. The Eagles improve to 22-19 overall on the season
and play Thomas College at 4:00 p.m.
Arsenault earned the win walking two batters and striking out
seven.
Jeremy Schichtle (Wells River, VT) suffered the loss on
two-and-two-thirds innings pitched, giving up eight hits, seven
runs (all earned), no walks and four strikeouts.
Husson opened up the contest with back-to-back doubles to left
centerfield from Kyle Vanidestine (Bangor, ME) and Ethan Guerette
(Wales, ME) to make it 1-0 and never looked back.
Chris Maguire (Bucksport, ME) lifted a sacrifice fly to deep
left centerfield to extend the lead to 2-0.
In the bottom half, Eagles catcher Kevin Rennick (Lincoln, RI)
picked off a runner at first base to extinguish a bases loaded
rally keeping Lyndon St. off of the scoreboard.
Jake Arthers (Belfast, ME) connected for a solo home run to the
power alley in left centerfield in the second inning to push the
gap to 3-0.
Husson pushed across four more runs in the top of the third for
a 7-0 advantage.
Chase Daniels (Brewer, ME) notched an RBI single to right field
and Tom Crews (Bangor, ME) hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield for a
5-0 lead.
Arthers followed with a single through the left side of the
infield to chase Schichtle from the contest and Cody
Haverly-Johndro (Newport, ME) made it 7-0 lining a two-run single
up the middle off of Hornets'relief pitcher Shane Fleury
(Plainfield, VT) to cap the four-run frame.
In the top of fourth, left fielder Korey Marsh (Essex, VT)
snatched a hit away from Maguire tracking down a line drive deep
down the left field line for the third out of the inning.
Jake Ainsworth (Fairfax, VT) cut into the gap with an RBI single
in the bottom of the sixth plating Robert Trucott (Lyndonville, VT)
from second base to make it 8-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, Stetson Hicks (Whitefield, NH)
fisted a single to centerfield scoring Shawn Lonardelli (Lebanon,
CT) to cut into the lead at 8-2. Trucott followed with a line drive
single to left field to push the deficit to 8-3.
