Box Score Bangor, ME – Husson University dropped a hard fought loss
to Colby College 11-10 on Husson's senior night. With
the loss, the Eagles fall to 14-14 (7-1 conference) while the Mules
improve to 8-6 overall. Prior to the start of the game,
Husson honored the contributions made by seniors Corey Cushing,
Chris Morris, Tim Briand-Evans, and Bill Bart.
Colby scored two first inning runs when Ryan Conlon (Sr.,
Ridgefield, CT) hit a two run homerun. The Eagles would
answer with a run in the bottom of the second inning, scored off a
Chris Maguire (Jr., Orland, ME) RBI single to right field.
In the bottom of the second inning, Tom Crews (Jr., Bangor, ME)
stole second and third to score off a Corey Cushing (Sr., Brewer,
ME) RBI single to right field. The Eagles would plate three
runs tying the game at 4-4. Colby responded with a two run
third inning off a passed ball and sacrifice fly to right
field. The Eagles trailed the Mules until the bottom of the
sixth inning when Crews walloped a grand-slam homerun to left field
to take the lead at 9-8.
Colby punched in two additional runs in the top of the seventh
off RBI singles by Brandon Nieuw (So., Port Chester, NY) and Ryan
Conlon (Sr., Ridgefield, CT) to reclaim a 10-9 lead. The
Mules scored in the top of the ninth off of another RBI single by
Conlon to push their lead to 11-10.
Chase Daniels led off the bottom of the ninth for the Eagles
with a single past the shortstop. Kyle Vanidestine laid down
a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher to advance Daniels to second.
Colby's shortstop, Nieuw made a tremendous over-the-shoulder
catch on what would have been a looping gaper by Ethan Guerette
(Jr., Wales, ME) to give the Mules their second out of the inning.
Shawn Smith (Fy., Winterport, ME) drilled a shot at the right
fielder who made the catch to end the game with an 11-10 Colby win.
Brady Hesslein (Fy., Newton, MA) received the win and Wil
Hartigan (Jr., Arlington, MA) was credited with the Save for
Colby. Husson's Dan Beatham (Jr., Dexter, ME) collected
the loss.
Husson travels to Lyndon State for a double-header weekend
against conference foe Lyndon State College on April 10-11.
