– Visiting Husson University scored the
game's first three goals and the Eagles didn't look
back as they remained unbeaten in North Atlantic Conference (NAC)
play by defeating host Johnson State College 8-6 in men's
lacrosse action at Minaert Field on Saturday. With the loss
the Badgers fall to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the NAC while Husson
moves to 4-4 overall and 3-0 in the NAC.
The Eagles' Nick Brown (Sabattus, Maine)
started the scoring in the opening minute of play with an
unassisted goal and then saw Ben Landry (Lewiston,
Maine) and Anthony Diaz (Brunswick,
Maine) tack on additional goals for a quick 3-0 Husson
lead.
Johnson would get goals from Erik Tillberg (Randolph,
Vt.) and Mike Murphy (Woodstock, Vt.)
near the end of the first period to close the gap to 3-2 and then
would knot the score at three each when Billy Noyes
(Boston, Mass.) tallied an unassisted goal with 9:24
remaining in the first half.
The tie would last all of :24 seconds when Landry connected on
his second goal of the afternoon and sparked Husson back into the
lead for good. After taking a 5-3 advantage into halftime,
Diaz and Alex Ryan (Northfield, N.H.) would give
the Eagles their largest lead of the day at 7-3 with 7:56 left in
the third period.
Despite back-to-back goals from Isaac Williams
(Cambridge, Mass.) and Alex Petti (East Greenwich,
R.I.) Johnson State could not muster enough offense on the
day as the Badgers were outshot 38-33 for the afternoon.
Diaz would tally his third goal of the day and JSC's
Justin Nelson (Lakeville, Mass.) would match him
with 3:50 to play to conclude the scoring in the game as the Eagles
took home the big road victory.
Johnson's Branden Sawyer (East Greenwich,
R.I.) was strong in the cage all day finishing with 16
saves while Alex Behzad (Stamford, Conn) relieved
John Hooper (Wakefield, R.I.) and made 12 stops to
give the Husson keeper combination 14 for the day.
Husson will face off against Norwich University at 5 pm on
Tuesday, April 6, at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland, Maine.
