Box Score 2 The Husson Eagles collected 25 hits and scored 21 runs in a two
game sweep of the Lady Mariners on Wednesday night in North
Atlantic Conference action at Ritchie Field. Husson won the first
game 14-6 and took the night cap 7-2 en route to their
12th NAC win of the year.
In the first game, Dorothy Cameron (So. Plainfield, NJ)
collected two hits, three runs, and three RBI's, leading the
Husson Eagles to 14-6 victory over MMA.
The Lady Mariners (19-2, 10-1 NAC) got the scoring started in
the second inning, plating a run on a passed ball, which allowed
Nicole Poland (Damariscotta, ME) to cross the plate. Nicole Poland
got the inning started with a one out double to left center field.
Poland then advanced to third base on a McKenzie Burke (Wells, ME)
single to left, putting runners at the corners. After a MMA
strikeout, Poland scored on a passed ball which also allowed Burke
to advance to second base. Casey McCloskey (Howland, ME) then
walked which put runners on first and second. Megan Russell (Peru,
ME) followed up with an RBI single to left scoring Burke to give
MMA the 2-0 lead. Leah Jackson (Dedham, ME) then followed with an
RBI single down the left field line scoring McCloskey to give MMA
the 3-0 advantage. Husson got out of the inning with any further
damage when Husson pitcher Kody Lyon (Dalton, NH) struck out
Mallery Stanley stranding runners at second and third.
Husson (20-13, 11-0 NAC) answered with four runs their own in
the top of the third. Aimee Mortensen (Biddeford, ME) started the
rally with a single to left and with one out, Courtney Hill
(Calais, ME) singled to shortstop. Cassie Berry (Newcastle, ME)
then hit one back to the mound, but a McKenzie Burke throwing error
allowed Mortensen to score and leave runners at second and third.
Megan Richard (Wilton, ME) then singled to left driving in Hill to
inch the Eagles closer at 3-2. Brianna Webster (Belfast, ME)
proceeded to hit a ground ball back to the pitcher, but the ball
got away from the first baseman on the throw, allowing another run
to score and tie the game at 3-3. The Eagles capped off the inning,
scoring their fourth run, on a sacrifice fly by Lona Sargent
(Sullivan, ME), which plated Cassie Berry
The Eagles struck again in the top of the fourth scoring their
fifth run of the game on an RBI single to center off the bat of
Dorothy Cameron (So. Plainfield, NJ).
Diann Ramsey (Otisfield, ME)
scored on the hit giving the Eagles the 5-3 lead.
The Eagles pushed the lead to 6-3 in the 5th inning
on a sac fly from Diann Ramsey scoring Megan Richard. The run came
after consecutive hits from Richard and Sargent. Husson added to
their lead in the 6th when Sarah Risser (Brewer, ME)
reached on an error and then Courtney Hill singled to put runners
at the corners. Risser proceeded to score on a fielder's
choice giving Husson the 7-3 lead and put the game out of reach.
Husson tacked on four more runs in the inning and took an 11-3 lead
into the bottom of the 6th.
The Lady Mariners added a run in the bottom of the
6th on a home run by McKenzie Burke to inch MMA closer
at 11-4. Husson answered with three more runs in the 7th
after two more MMA errors followed up by a solo home run from
Cassie Berry pushing the lead back up to 14-4.
MMA added two more runs in the bottom of the 7th on a
two run home run off the bat of Mallery Stanley (Standish, ME) to
close the scoring at 14-6 Husson.
Leah Jackson picked up three hits along with one run and one RBI
while Mallery Stanley led MMA with two RBI's. McKenzie Burke
(Wells, ME) had a rough outing for MMA giving up 16 hits and 11
earned runs while falling to 9-2 on the season.
Megan Richard collected three hits for Husson while Diann Ramsey
collected two RBI's. Kody Lyon earned the win for Husson
pitching 6 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and five earned runs
while striking out eight MMA batters.
In the second game, Aimee Mortensen went 2-for-4 with a home run
and two RBI's as the Husson Eagles improved to 12-0 in NAC
play and took over sole possession of first place.
Husson (21-13, 12-0 NAC) got the scoring started in the top of
the first when Diann Ramsey hit a sacrifice fly that scored Dorothy
Cameron, giving Husson the 1-0 lead. In the top of the second
inning, the Eagles loaded the bases with nobody out before Cameron
knocked a base hit to right field scoring Nicole Sargent for
Husson's second run. After an unassisted double play by the
Lady Mariners, Cassie Berry ripped a double off the left field
fence scoring two more runs, propelling Husson to a 4-0 lead.
The Eagles scored two more in the 3rd on a two run
homer by Aimee Mortensen to increase the lead to 6-0 and then
tacked on another run in the 4th to take the 7-0 lead.
MMA (19-3, 10-2) answered with a run in the bottom of the
4th with an RBI ground out by Nicole Poland, which
plated Kayla Higgins (Sullivan, ME) for the Lady Mariner's
first run of the game. The Lady Mariners scored their second run of
the game in the bottom of the 6th on another RBI ground
out by Nicole Poland to inch closer at 7-2 but the scoring would
end there and the Husson Eagles completed the sweep of the Lady
Mariners.
McKenzie Burke led the Lady Mariners with three hits while
Nicole Poland collected MMA's only two RBI's. Casey
McCloskey dropped to 10-1 on the season, giving up just nine hits
and seven earned runs which included seven walks over seven innings
of work.
Dorothy Cameron led the Eagles with three hits and two runs
while Nicole Sargent (Sullivan, ME) picked up the win. Sargent
threw six innings of five hit ball while allowing just the two
earned runs.
