Box Score 2 Bangor, ME – Husson University split with Thomas College
with a 6-5 loss and 12-1 win in this afternoon's North
Atlantic Conference East contests. With the split,
Husson's record shifts to 12-13 (5-1 conf.) while Thomas is
(6-8) (1-1 conf.).
Thomas opened up the scoring in the top of the fourth inning
when Tim Costa (Sr., Pelham, NH) reached on an error and Danny
Burke (So., New Haven, CT) scored. Tom Desjardins (SR., Fort
Kent, ME) knocked in an RBI off a single to center field.
Husson would answer in the bottom of the second with two runs of
their own, beginning with a solo homerun by Chris Maguire (Jr.,
Orland, ME). A sacrifice groundout by Corey Cushing (Sr.,
Brewer, ME) plated Jake Arthers (So., Belfast, ME).
The top of the fifth inning proved to be a deciding one for the
Terriers who tallied four runs off of five hits. Tom
Desjardins (Sr., Fort Kent, ME) collected two RBI's off a
single to left field. Mike Busa (Jr., Carver, MA) hit an RBI
single to right field followed by another RBI single to right by
Josh Nickerson (Jr., Stockton Springs, ME). The fifth inning
would end with Husson trailing 6-2.
The Eagles rallied in the seventh inning with three runs
beginning with a score by Kyle Vanidestine (So., Bangor, ME) off an
error. Jake Arthers (So., Belfast, ME) hit a 2 RBI single to
center field to bring the score to 6-5 but could the Eagles could
not push additional runs across the plate. The game ended
with a 6-5 Thomas win.
Thomas' Chris Farrar (So., Sidney, ME) was credited with
the win with Jacob Chamblee (Fy., South Berwick, ME) earning the
save. Nate Adams (So., Frankfort, ME) pitched a complete game
for the loss.
Husson opened game two with a four run first inning that started
off by an Ethan Guerette (Jr., Wales, ME) RBI single to
center. The Eagles followed with a 2 RBI single to right by
Maguire and a Chase Daniels (Fy., Brewer, ME) RBI triple down the
right field line.
Thomas tallied their first run of the game in the top of the
third inning when Desjardes singled to center, plating Burke.
Husson answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the third
when Maguire scored off a sacrifice fly by Daniels.
The Eagles collected two runs in the fourth inning and plated 5
runners in the fifth. The fifth inning featured a double
steal when Vanidestine stole second and Cody Haverly-Jhondro (So.,
Newport, ME) stole home. The game would end with a 12-1 Eagle
victory.
Husson's Chris Morris (Sr., Hampden, ME) earned the
win while Thomas' Goodall was credited with the loss.
The Eagles and Terriers will play the second half of their
conference match-up with a double-header on Saturday, April 3 at
12:00 at Husson's Winkin Complex.
