The Husson Eagles started off a four game home stand against the
University of Maine, Farmington Beavers on a chilly Saturday
afternoon with the game remaining scoreless for the next six
innings thanks to quality pitching and defensive plays on both
sides. The pitcher's duel continued through the second
inning with Eagle Nate Adams (So., Frankfort, ME) throwing 35
pitches with 20 of them for strikes and Beaver Bill Ridge (Sr.,
South Portland, ME) throwing 21 pitches with 16 strikes.
Entering the bottom of the sixth, the score remained tied at
zero thanks to a diving groundball stop by shortstop Ethan Guerette
(Jr., Wales, ME). Guerette got the out at first, saving the
Eagles from giving up a run and ending the inning.
The top of the seventh inning was action packed. With two
outs and runners in scoring position for the Beavers, Adams got a
huge out fanning Beaver Jack Macvane (So., Mechanic Falls, ME) to
end the inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning with two
outs Chase Daniels (Fy., Brewer, ME) got on base and Kyle
Vanidestine (So., Bangor, ME) came through with a walk-off single
to right field, driving Daniels in from second giving the Eagles
the 1-0 win.
Husson's Nate Adams earned the win, pitching a complete
game and giving up six hits, three walks, six strikeouts and no
runs. Bill Ridge was credited with the loss for the Beavers

In game two of the Saturday doubleheader, the Eagles opened up
in the bottom of the first with a single by Kyle Vanidestine (So.,

Eagles an early 1-0 lead. Guerette came home from third on a
wild pitch by Beaver pitcher Dale Winchenbach (Fy., Waldoboro, ME)
making the lead 2-0 in favor of the Eagles. More runs kept
coming for the Eagles in the first inning, the third coming on an
error by Beaver catcher Jack Macvane (So., Mechanic Falls, ME)
allowing Jake Arthers (So., Belfast, ME) to come in from third
after stealing third moments before making it 3-0 in favor of
Husson.
In the top half of the third inning, the Beavers' Macvane
led off with a double and was moved to third on a groundout,
however, was left on third due to a combination of pitching and
defense by Husson. The Eagles were able to extend their lead
to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning on an error by Beaver
second baseman Steve Hutchinson (Sr., Beverly, MA), enabling Jason
Smith to come home. Husson extended their lead when Jake
Arthers (So., Belfast, ME) lead off with a double and then was
driven in by a Tom Crews (Jr., Bangor, ME) double, making the lead
5-0. Crews advanced to third on a groundout and was able to
steal home plate on the next play, giving the Eagles a 6-0 lead.
The Beavers got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth on an
RBI single by Josh Garneau (Jr., South Portland, ME), driving in
