Box Score 2 Bangor, ME- The Husson Eagles were swept in a doubleheader
against the Bates Bobcats in a snowy home opener. With the
loss, Husson falls to 7-10 while Bates improves to 8-3.
In game one, Husson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. Bates
then tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single in the top of the
second inning by Mike Ciummei (So., Acton, MA). Husson had a
three run bottom of the second inning with a barrage of hits coming
from Kyle Vanidestine (So., Bangor, ME) with an RBI single,
followed by Maguire's second RBI of the game with his second
single. Cody Haverly-Johndro (So., Newport, ME) scored from
third on a wild pitch by Bates pitcher Paul Chiampa (Jr., Pembroke,
MA).
Bates regained the lead with a four run sixth inning with
RBI's from Pat Murphy (Jr., Cape Elizabeth, ME), Rick Velotta
(Jr., Fairfield, Conn), Chris Burke (Jr., Andover, MA), and Noah
Lynd (Jr., Meriden, N.H). Husson answered with a pair of runs
in the bottom of the eighth inning, regaining the lead at
8-7. Jake Arthers (So., Belfast, ME) drove in a run with a
triple to right field while Ethan Guerette (Jr., Wales, ME) came
home on a passed ball.
Bates answered Husson in the top of the ninth inning with an
impressive 5 run inning. Two RBIs were quick to follow by a
Chris Burke single to right field, followed by another 2 run hit by
Jake Simon (Jr., Waterford, Conn). Husson tried to answer
with an RBI double by Vanidestine in the bottom half of the ninth
inning, however came up short in the end by a final score of 12-9,
giving the Bates Bobcats their seventh win of the season.
The winning pitcher for Bates was Paul Chiampa pitching 7.0
innings allowing 9 hits and 6 earned runs, allowing 4 walks and
striking out 8 batters. Husson Pitcher Dan Beatham (Jr.,
Dexter, ME) was credited with the loss after pitching 3.1 innings,
giving up 5 hits and 5 earned runs, walking 3 and striking out 3.
In game two of the double header, Bates jumped out to an
early lead in the first with an error on Husson second baseman Cody
Haverly-Johndro, scoring Bobcat Jake Simon. Bates followed up
with an enormous 10 run second inning racking up 9 hits including a
towering grand slam by Noah Lynd. Bates also tallied up two
triples and three doubles during the second inning, making the
score 11-0 in favor of Bates.
Bates racked up another six runs in the top of the fourth
inning with another six hits, including a solo homerun by Mike
Ciummei (So., Acton, MA), making the score 17-0. Husson made
a dent in the score by gaining 3 runs on 3 hits with a triple by
Tom Crews (Jr., Bangor, ME) driving in 2 runs, an RBI single by
Matt Archetti (So., Chester, NH), and a single by Andrew Bush (Fy.,
Holden, ME).
Bates amassed another six runs over the next two innings,
including a homerun by Gordy Webb (Jr., Hampden, ME) followed by
Noah Lynd's second homer of the game, giving him 8 RBIs on
the day.
Husson scored another 4 runs in the fifth inning, however
the Eagles were unable to come back against the raging
Bobcats.
Bobcat Noah Lynd had an impressive game going 3-5 with 2
homeruns and 8 RBIs, along with Gordy Webb hitting 4-6 with one
homerun and RBIs. Eagle Matt Archetti hit a perfect 3-3
during the game with 2 RBIs.
