Husson will play tomorrow against U. Maine at Presque Isle in the continuance of the Paul Bunyan Tournament at 3 PM, following the 12:30 PM game between Bates College and U. Maine at Fort Kent.
In the first game of the Paul Bunyan Tournament, Bates College defeated U. Maine at Presque Isle 71-33. The game was highlighted by UMPI's turnovers (49) and Meredith Kelly's (FY, Cohasset, MA) performance coming off the Bates bench. Kelly finished the game with 18 points (8-22 FG), 9 steals, and 7 rebounds.
Throughout the game, Bates frustrated UMPI with their full-court pressure and innate ability to find the open woman on offense, making UMPI's zone defense irrelevant. Bates's shooters were hitting shots, and when UMPI started covering the shooters, Bates kicked the ball inside to score easy buckets and draw fouls.
Top performers for UMPI were Emily Pelletier (SO, Fort Kent, ME) and Rashell Saucier (FY, Washburn, ME). Pelletier was the high scorer with 9 points, and Saucier recorded 8 points and 6 rebounds.
Kelly was the top performer for Bates. Other than Kelly, Allie Beaulieu (SO, Swampscott, MA) had 11 points, 4 steals, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds.
UMPI couldn't overcome their constant turnovers and fell to Bates, 71-33.
