Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine -- No. 3 Husson University topped second-seeded University of Maine at Farmington 2-0 at Prescott Field this afternoon to advance to the North Atlantic Conference women's soccer final. The four time defending NAC champion Eagles (14-5-1) are scheduled to visit top-ranked Castleton State College Saturday for the NAC crown. Game time to be announced. The Beavers ended their season at 9-8-1.
Husson opened the scoring with an own goal in the first half and expanded the advantage to 2-0 on a header by Katelyn Cloutier (Groveton, N.H.) in the second half to seal the 2-0 victory.
Both teams enjoyed chances in the opening 10 minutes, but the Eagles were the first to capitalize. Husson's Alexandra Laniewski (Scarborough, Maine) played the ball ahead with Farmington keeper McKell Barnes (Durham, Maine) getting a foot on ahead of Husson's Rebecca Jones (Newmarket, N.H.). Barnes' clear attempt ricocheted off teammate Logan Faulkingham (St. Louis, Mo.) and Faulkingham was unable to reach the deflection before it crossed the goal line for a 1-0 lead for Husson.
The Eagles kept the Beavers at bay in the second half by outshooting Farmington 11-2 in the frame with both of the Beaver bids coming from Katie Cray (Richmond, Maine) in the final 6:26. Husson added an insurance marker at 74:58 when Cloutier headed in a Michelle Manning (Hampden, Maine) corner kick for the 2-0 final.
Barnes finished with 11 saves for Farmington.
Rozlyn Petersen (Newport, Maine) stopped seven shots for the Eagles.
