Box Score BANGOR, ME – Sometimes in soccer, all it takes is one
goal. That's exactly what happened today in Husson
University's win over Colby College in women's soccer 1-0.
The goal came from the tandem of Michelle Manning (SR, Hampden,
ME) and Rebecca Jones (FY, Newmarket, NH). The two players
got out in the open field in the 20th minute with even
numbers plus the goalie to beat, and Jones fed a perfect pass to
Manning who took a shot and got it past Colby goalie, Loni Pisani
(SR, Kanata, Canada).
"Colby is a very good team," said Husson Head Coach
Keith Bosley. "We're pleased with the win, particularly
because we played the way we'd like to heading into
playoffs."
Defense was definitely a factor in today's game as Husson
out-shot Colby 12 to 4. Husson just edged Colby in corner
kicks, 4 to 3.
As it goes, sometimes all you need is one goal, but on the other
hand all you could need is one save. Husson goalie Rozlyn
Peterson (JR, Newport, ME) only needed one save today, and she got
it. Colby goalie Pisani ended the day with 3 saves.
Husson walks away with the victory and improves their record to
11-5-1 heading into their next match at Thomas College on Saturday,
October 23.
The Colby College Mules drop to 4-5-3 on the year, and have yet
to find their way to a victory in conference. They will be
looking to getting back to their winning ways in their next match
against Connecticut College on October 23.
