Box Score BOSTON, MASS. – Josh Anderson (So., Underhill Center, Vt.) scored five goals, and Joe Greaney (Sr., Medfield, Mass.) had a pair of goals and added five assists to lead the Emerson college Lions over the Husson University Hawks by a score of 12-5 in a North Atlantic conference men's lacrosse match at Emerson's Rotch Field.
Anderson and Greaney wasted little time on their first hook-up of the game with Anderson rifling a shot by Hawk goalie Matt Linnell (Fr., Albion, Maine) just 1:02 into the game. Husson drew next blood with an unassisted tally from Kyle Dwyer (Fr., Brunswick, Maine) just over four minutes later, and the Hawks took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Anthony Diaz (Fr., Brunswick, Maine).
Anderson then took over the remainder of the period scoring three straight times, twice on assists by Jake Frank (Sr., Bethany, Conn.) sandwiched around another assist by Greaney. Anderson's third and fourth goals were scored just seven seconds apart. Frank closed the first period scoring to give the Lions a 5-2 lead.
A Diaz goal cut the lead to 5-3 less than a minute into the second period, but Axel Larson () answered with the eventual game winner assisted by Greaney. Greaney also assisted on the Lions' seventh goal, as Alex Miyawaki (Jr., San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) scored to make the Lions' halftime lead 7-3.
A Hawk goal by Ben Landry (Fr., Lewiston, Maine) off a Nick Brown (Fr., Sabattus, Maine) assist in a man-up situation opened the third period scoring, but five consecutive goals by the Lions put the game out of reach. Frank, Greaney twice, Anderson, and Roger Tower (Jr., Titusville, N.J.) all found net during the run. A Hawk goal by Dwyer with less than four minutes remaining finished the scoring.
Emerson was very efficient offensively in the game scoring its 12 goals on just 25 shots as compared to the Hawks 37. Emerson had a large edge in ground balls with a 50-36 margin. Husson held a slight 11-9 edge in face offs.
Pat Curran (Fr., Framingham, Mass.) had a strong game in the Emerson net with 18 saves. Linnell tallied seven stops for the Hawks.
Emerson (5-2, 4-1 NAC) will travel to Johnson State for a 1:00pm Saturday face off. Husson (3-5, 2-3 NCA) hosts Green Mountain College Saturday at 11:00AM.
