Bangor, ME - On Senior Day for Husson
University the Eagles honored their six seniors with a come from
behind victory as they defeated Bowdoin College 19-9. The
Eagles found themselves down 8-3 after 4 ½ innings of play,
but rallied to outscore the Polar Bears 16-1 through the last five
innings.
The Polar Bears scored three runs in the top of the first
inning, highlighted by a two run RBI single by Ian Edwards
(Fy. Bangor, ME). Husson got back a run in
the bottom of the inning with a RBI single to left field by Chris
Maguire (So. Orland, ME).
Bowdoin scored another run in the top of the second on a
line-drive RBI single to right field by Joe Berte (Sr.
Marlborough, MA). However, senior second baseman
Billy Shannon (Newburgh, ME) would hit a
groundball up the middle that would score two, bringing the Eagles
within one run.
In the fourth inning Berte would hit a two run RBI triple to the
right-center gap. Berte would later score on a sacrifice fly,
giving the Polar Bears an 8-3 lead. In the bottom of the
inning, after an infield error and a double by Jake Arthers
(Fy. Belfast, ME), Tom Crews (So. Bangor,
ME) would hit a RBI infield single.
Husson senior outfielder Jeff Miller (Veazie,
ME) would save at least one run for the Eagles in the top
of the fifth inning, as he made an amazing diving catch to end the
inning. The Eagles would score two runs in the bottom of the
inning by being patient at the plate as they drew two walks to
start off the inning. After Ethan Guerette (So.
Sabattus, ME) scored on a wild pitch, Nick Arthers
(Sr. Belfast, ME) would get one RBI closer to
breaking Husson's single-season record for RBI as he brought
Maguire home on a sacrifice fly. Arthers is eight RBI away
from breaking the record.
In the sixth inning, Maguire had an RBI ground out and Arthers
would beat out a groundball that would score Kyle Vanidestine
(Fy. Bangor, ME) from third, trying the game
8-8. After a walk, Dennis Graham (Jr. Miramichi,
CN) would burn the right fielder, giving him a two run RBI
double and the Eagles their first lead of the game.
In the top of the seventh, Edwards would hit a double that
bounced off the left-center field fence. Joe Pace
(Jr. Newburyport, MA) would then step to the plate
and single home Edwards. The Eagles would put the game away
in the eighth as they scored nine runs, highlighted by a three RBI
double by pinch hitter Matt Archetti (Fy. Chester,
MA).
