Eagles Complete the Sweep of Thomas

WATERVILLE, ME—In the second North Atlantic Conference doubleheader in as many days, the Husson University Eagles won a pair of baseball games against the Terriers of Thomas College.

In game one the Eagles got on the board early as Kyle Vanidestine scored on an RBI single by Chris Maguire. The Terriers answered in the bottom half when an RBI walk by Josh Nickerson (Stockton Springs, ME) scored senior captain Jared Fieldsend (Somersworth, NH) from third.

Thomas took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third when Fieldsend doubled and later scored on an RBI groundout by Dana Leland (Old Town, ME). Husson got three in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead and would eventually score four more runs throughout the remainder of the game to win 8-2. Jeff Miller of Husson went 3-4 in the contest with a double and two stolen bases. Leading the way for the Terrier offense was Fieldsend who scored both Thomas runs to compliment his double in the third.

Game two belonged to Husson as the Eagles jumped on Terrier pitching early and often. After scoring three in the first off Thomas starter Tom Cameron (Jackson, ME), the Eagles added four in the second and four more in the third to take an 11-0 lead after three. The fourth inning was much of the same for the Husson offense as they scored three more runs to take a 14-0 lead.

The Terriers would get two back in the fifth when Alex Pelletier (Williamsburg, VA) scored followed by Joe Biondi (West Haven, CT) who scored on an RBI single from Dana Leland. Leland was the highlight of the Terrier offense in game two, as he went 4-4 with an RBI.

The Eagles move to 9-3 in teh NAC and 21-11 overall.  They wil travel to Colby College on April 21st at 4:00 pm.  The Terriers fall to 0-4 in conference play. They will look to rebound on Tuesday when they travel to Standish, ME to take on the Monks of St. Joseph's College.
