Box Score 2 WATERVILLE, ME—The Terriers opened the door to North Atlantic Conference competition on Friday when they squared off against the Eagles of Husson University. The Eagles swept the doubleheader 6-2 and 11-1.
Husson tacked on two runs early against the Terriers when Nick Arthers hit an RBI double down the line to score Kyle Vanidestine and Jeff Miller knocked in Chris Maguire. Husson got two more in the third but the Terriers would respond in the bottom half.
Tim Costa (Pelham, NH) was hit by a pitch, followed by an RBI double from Jared Fieldsend (Somersworth, NH). Tom Desjardins knocked in a run of his own as he hit a single to score Fieldsend from second. The Terriers had cut the lead in half, but Husson would grab a couple more runs in the fifth when Arthers belted a two-run homerun to give the Eagles a 6-2 lead.
Husson held the lead for the remainder of the game and came away victorious.
In game two, the Eagles would score another first inning run after Vanidestine led the game off with a double to right off of Terrier freshman Chris Farrar (Sidney, ME). Dennis Graham had an RBI single to score Vanidestine to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.
The Terriers had the answer in the bottom of the second when Josh Nickerson (Stockton Springs, ME) scored on a single by Mike Busa (Carver, MA). Husson grabbed another run in the third to take a 2-1 lead. The score would remain the same until the top of the sixth when
Husson batted around and took an 11-1 after six. The Eagles held on to the lead and won the game. Chris Pease was the winner in game one and Kyle Leeman was in game two.
The Eagles are now 19-11 overall and 7-3 in the NAC. The Terriers fall to 0-2 in the conference and 1-15 overall. The two teams will play again on Saturday, April 11th when they host Husson for the second conference doubleheader in as many days.
