Eagles Crush Bates

Box Score

Bangor, ME -  The Husson University Eagles rallied past the Bates College Bobcats, 13-1 in a nine inning game at Husson University.  The game was suppose to be played at Bates, but due to weather was moved to the John Winkin Complex, therefore Bates was the home team.  From the third to sixth inning the Eagles took control of the game by outscoring the Bobcats 12-1.

After two innings of scoreless ball, the Eagles erupted for three runs in the top of the third, highlighted by a Jeff Miller (Sr. Veazie, ME) three-run homer run with two outs, to right center field.  In Miller's first at bat of the day, he hit a fly out to the right field warning track.  In the bottom of the third inning Alex Gallant (So. Bangor, ME) ripped a triple to the right-center gap.  Tom Beaton (Jr. West Newbury, MA) would then step into the batter's box and shot a groundball up the middle for an RBI single.  Bates would get multiple base runners on in the inning, however Nick Arthurs (Sr. Belfast, ME) would halt their rally as he would throw out two different Bobcats trying to steal second.

In the top of the fourth the Eagles would pick up where they last left off, as they rallied to score another three runs.  Husson started off the inning with two walks.  Ethan Guerette (So. Sabattus, ME) would then line an RBI single down the right field line.  Chris Maguire (So. Orland, ME) doubled to left center to drive in two more runs for the Eagles.

After holding a scoreless bottom of the fourth inning, the Eagles would continue to add on their lead as they scored four more runs in the top of the fifth.  The fifth inning was highlighted by a RBI triple by Arthurs that hit off the center field wall.  Husson would add another run in the sixth, on an RBI triple by Kyle Vanidestine (Fy. Bangor, ME) that one hopped the left field wall.

Husson University pitcher Chris Morris (Jr. Hampden, ME) improved his record to 3-0 as he threw six innings, giving up only one run on six hits, one walk and four strike outs.  The Eagles were led offensively by Miller who finished with a single, double and homerun, totaling five RBIs.  Guerette finished with two singles and three RBIs.  Vanidestine tripled and doubled and Arthurs had a double.

Bates College was led by Beaton who had an RBI single.  Gordy Webb (So. Hampden, ME) doubled and Gallant tripled.
