Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine—Thomas College's women's
basketball team welcomed the Husson University Eagles into Larry
Mahaney Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day, where the
Terriers would drop a North Atlantic Conference Matchup by a score
of 87-75. Thomas' seniors that were recognized before the
game were Amy Miles (Waldo, ME) and Kristy Clements (Monroe,
ME).
The loss for the Terriers drops their record to 4-16 overall and
1-8 in the NAC. Husson's win improves their record to 12-7
overall and 8-1 as NAC leaders.
The teams would battle back and forth during the opening half,
which featured the teams tying on three occasions and six different
lead changes. Husson would lead by a 17-10 margin after a Bree
Hanscom (Fr., Mattawamkeag, ME) layup with 12:26 to go in the half,
just to see the lead be erased by a 10-0 Thomas run in a 3:55 time
span. Back-to-back baskets by Stephany Sevey (So., Skowhegan, ME)
would quickly add five points for the Eagles with fewer than two
minutes to go. Husson would take the half-time lead by a score of
39-33.
In the second half, Husson would consistently carry a lead, and
would extend it to 14 points with 14:06 to go in the game. The
Terriers would not back down, however, and would pull within just
six points after a basket by Lynn Chaisson (Fr., Dummer, NH) with
3:57 to play. Shelby Bradford (Jr., Lee, ME) would then add the
next six points for the Eagles, to put the lead back into to double
figures and allow the Eagles to pull off the 87-75 win.
Thomas' offense was very balanced on the afternoon, featuring
five different players in double-figures. Courtney Barrett (So.,
Monmouth, ME) would toss in 18 points while also grabbing eight
rebounds. Kellie Martel (So., Cambridge, ME) would be close behind
with 16 points, with nine of those coming from beyond the arc.
Miles would contribute 12 points on the afternoon while Jess
Nassetta (Jr., Standish, ME) and Chaisson would add 11 and 10
points, respectively.
Husson University would be lead by Ashley Bragdon (Jr., Newport,
ME) and Hansom, who each contributed 17 points on the afternoon.
Hanscom was an impressive 7-10 from the field while she was also
3-3 from the charity stripe. Bradford and Sevey would also rack up
double-figure scoring for the Eagles with 11 and 10 points,
respectively.
Thomas' next contest will come on Tuesday, February 10, when
they visit Colby College at 5:00 p.m. The Eagles will return to
action on Tuesday as well when they host Maine Maritime Academy at
7:30 p.m.
