Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team
pulled
away in the second half of a 79-58 victory over Husson on Tuesday
evening at Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears (6-0) are ranked
fifth in the latest D3Hoops.com national poll. The Eagles fall to
0-5 this season with the setback.
Bowdoin was paced by three players with 16 points - Katie Bergeron
and Ellery Gould, who both connected for four three-pointers, and
Leah Rubega, who added 11 boards for her third-straight
double-double.
Tied at five apiece in the early going, Bowdoin used an 11-2 spurt
to open up a 16-7 advantage midway through the first period.
Bergeron sparked the run with a three-pointer as the Polar Bears
looked to pull away. But the Eagles stayed close, thanks to nine
first-half points from Brianna Hanscom and 14 free-throw attempts
compared to just four for the Polar Bears. Bergeron connected for a
trio of trifectas for the hosts, but the two teams combined for 25
turnovers as Bowdoin carried a 31-27 lead into intermission.
Bowdoin put the game away early in the second half, scoring the
first 15 points of the frame to open up a 19-point advantage. Gould
scored eight points in the run, including consecutive
three-pointers to cap the decisive run. The Polar Bears shot 56.3%
from the field in the second stanza to seal the win.
The Eagles were paced by 19 points and 12 rebounds by Shelby
Bradford and 13 points from Brianna Hanscom. In addition to their
leading scorers, Caitlin Hynes also saw double-figures for the
Polar Bears with 14. Rubega had four blocks while Hynes added three
for Bowdoin while rookie point guard Kaitlin Donahoe notched a
game-high seven assists.
