Box Score Castleton, VT - The Castleton State College field hockey team
received goals from four different players and improved to a
perfect 3-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play with a 4-1 win
over Husson University Saturday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.
Castleton opened the scoring in the 14th minute of play on Marie
Amaral's (Barre, VT) third goal of the season. Stephanie Paproski
(Newtown, CT) set up the goal with a perfect cross on a two-on-one.
Amaral took the pass and ripped a shot into the top left corner of
the goal.
Freshman Kealy Chipman (Bellows Falls, VT) made it 2-0 just over
seven minutes into the second half, converting a direct pass from
Heather Brock (Bow, NH) into her fifth collegiate goal. Less than
two minutes later the Eagles cut the lead in half as Courtney Allen
(Gardner, ME) converted a Kajsa Blindow (Morgan, VT) assist.
After a Castleton timeout, the Spartans were able to convert two
unanswered goals to put the game away. Molly Fraher (Goshen, CT)
rifled a shot into the bottom left corner for her fourth of the
season and Sarah Flore (Springfield, VT) squeaked one past Husson
goalie Kristen
Capen (Leeds, ME) to round out the scoring.
Siobhan Whittemore (Springfield, VT) started in goal for the
Spartans and stopped the lone shot that came her way in the first
half. Bridget Dusha (Greenwich, NY) finished the final 35 minutes
of play, stopping four shots, including two during a flurry by
Husson that produced five-straight shots.
Capen made nine saves in the loss for the 1-4 (1-2 NAC)
Eagles.
Husson will travel to University of Maine-Farmington on October 7
for a 4:00 pm NAC affair.
