Box Score Bangor, ME - The Husson University Eagles beat the Thomas
Terriers 2-1 in today's conference contest. Emily Woodbury
(Jr., Burnham, ME) scored what proved to be the game winner in the
first half of play. With the win, the Eagles improve to 2-5 (
2-2) in conference play. The Thomas Terriers fall to 3-8,
(1-2) in the conference.
The game's first goal came 7:58 into the first half with an
Eagle goal off a short corner. Helen Berry (Jr.,
Belfast, ME) received Courtney Allen's (Jr., Gardiner, ME) short
corner pass. Berry then passed the ball to Jenika Kelley
(Sr., Livermore Falls, ME) who buried the ball in the back of the
Thomas goal. Husson's Woodbury scored the game winning
goal 21:18 into the first half and was assisted by Kasja Blindow
(So., Morgan, VT). Blindow carried the ball into scoring
range and sent a short pass to Woodbury who fired a point blank
shot resulting in a goal.
Husson dominated the half with 18 shots, 10 on goal while Thomas
had 2 shots, 1 on goal. Thomas' goalkeeper, Meg Denby
(Copiague, NY), kept the Terriers in the game with 8 saves on
a flurry of shots while Husson's goalkeeper, Heather Durkee (Fy.,
Brunswick, ME) made 1 save on the half.
Thomas rallied in the second half with an early goal. Ally
Kennedy (Fy., Reedfield, ME) collected a deflected Terrier shot in
front of the Eagle goal and put the ball away for the Terriers only
score of the game. During the last four minutes of the
game, Thomas peppered the Eagle defense with three short corners
and four shots, firing the last shot with just 13 seconds on the
clock. Throughout the second half, Thomas had numerous
scoring chances off loose balls in the Husson backfield but strong
Eagle defending warded off the Terriers' attacks to preserve the
Eagle victory.
Thomas goalkeeper Meg Denby had a strong showing with 11 saves
on 28 shots while Husson keeper Heather Durkee tallied 2 saves on
13 shots.
Husson returns to action with a home game against Framingham
State on October 12 at 2:00.
