Box Score Bangor, ME – Husson won their third straight NAC title
with a 2-1 win over U. Maine Farmington at John Boucher Field.
Tournament MVP Shelby Bradford (Jr, Lee, ME) had both goals to pace
the Eagles to the win.
After a scoreless first half, Husson came out strong to start the
second half. Bradford found the net just :41 into the second half.
She received a throw in just outside the box and carried it by the
defender, firing a low shot just under Mckell Barnes (So, Durham,
ME).
One minute later it appeared the Katie Nickerson (Sr, Belfast, ME)
had put the Eagles up 2-0 but the goal was waved off because of a
hand ball. Bradford found the net 5:52 into the half off a pass
from Samantha Homer (Jr, Charlton, MA). Bradford received the pass
at the top of the box and found the top right corner.
The Beavers made a late push as Amber Murphy (Jr, Manchester, NH)
took a pass Julie Walters (Sr, Wells, ME) and shot it past Tatyana
Wolterbeek (Sr, Wells, ME) making it 2-1 with 2 minutes to
play.
Wolterbeek finished with 3 saves against 7 shots while Barnes had 9
saves against 21 shots.
Husson moves to 15-4 on the season while U. Maine Farmington
finishes at 10-8.
Tournament MVP was Shelby Bradford. The 2008 NAC Women's
Soccer All-Tournament team; Green Mountain – Monique Conture
and Karin Bellimare, Castleton State – Carisa Chadburn and
Katie Hoxsie, U. Maine Farmington – Julie Walters, Katie
Schwarz, and Amanda Byrne, Husson University – Kylan Smith,
Katie Nickerson, and Samantha Homer.
Husson advances to the NCAA III National Tournament for the 4th
time in six years. The learn of the seeding on Monday, November
9th.
