Husson University

Brittany Russell joined the Husson University volleyball coaching staff in August of 2026 as an assistant coach.

Russell brings twenty plus years of playing and coaching experience to the Eagle volleyball program. A native of Columbia, Maine and a graduate of Narraguagus High School, Russell was recruited by Sue Medley to join the University of Maine volleyball program as a walk-on student-athlete. Russell became a scholarship player at UMaine while earning three varsity letters and was chosen captain in both her junior and senior year. Rusell became a standout middle blocker for the Black Bears and earned America East All Conference Recognition in both her junior and senior years.

Following graduation from the University of Maine in 2005, Russell began her career in the nursing profession where she continues to serve as a recognized professional. From 2014 through 2026, Russell served in multiple health roles for Regional School Unit 22 in Hampden, ME, including as a Nationally Board-Certified School Nurse and Wellness Coordinator, eventually becoming the district-wide Director of Health, Wellness and Safety. 

In 2018, Russell started the varsity volleyball program at Hampden Academy in Hampden, Maine and served as Head Coach until 2025. While at the helm of the Broncos, Russell led the young program to multiple playoff opportunities while mentoring 5 All-KVAC Conference athletes. In 2021 she was selected by her peers as KVAC Coach of the Year. In addition to her volleyball coaching duties at Hampden Academy, Russell also served as an Assistant Coach for the Broncos indoor and outdoor track and field programs. Russell has also coached club volleyball with the Maine Juniors Volleyball Club and helped launch Wicked Northeast Volleyball Club in 2024. She continues to play in adult volleyball leagues and tournaments throughout Maine and New England and most recently represented Maine at the USA Volleyball Adult Nationals Tournament in Orlando, Florida.

Russell resides in Hampden with her two children, Cami and AJ and her husband Matthew.
