Marsh Gray enters his third season as the Husson head men's lacrosse coach in 2016. His career record entering the season is 14-15. He also leads the Athlete Academic Mentoring Program.
The Eagles finished fourth in the NAC in 2015 and reached the conference tournament semifinals. The season included a five-match win streak, including a NAC Tournament quarterfinal win. The Eagles produced four All-NAC members, including Defensive Player of the Year James Seager and Rookie of the Year Zack Glazier. Seager was also named to the NEILA Academic All-New England Team and USILA Scholar All-America squad. The Eagles led the country in caused turnovers and led the NAC in scoring offense. The team ranked fourth in NCAA Division III in ground balls per game, fifth in caused turnovers per game and 23rd in man down defense.
Gray also helped coach the Husson women's outdoor track and field team win its first NAC Championship in 2015.
Since taking over Husson’s lacrosse men's lacrosse program in 2013, Gray has worked hard to establish an industrious team culture that promoted competition and team accomplishments. He managed to build a competitive conference team that earned a trip to the 2014 NAC Tournament semifinals and won the NAC Sportsmanship Award.
Gray, who hails from Saco, Maine, comes to Husson after serving as the top assistant lacrosse coach at the University of Southern Maine from 2012-2013. As a key member of the coaching staff at Southern Maine, he helped recruit talented, quality character student-athletes and improved the team's performance in all aspects.
Previously, Gray served as a high school teacher and administrator and coached lacrosse at Cheverus (Maine) High School, Tilton (N.H.) School and Thornton Academy (Maine). In 12 seasons, he built four championship teams, appeared in six championship games, and compiled over 100 career wins as a high school lacrosse coach.
Gray also worked as a strength and conditioning coach specifically with lacrosse players for Saco Bay Physical Therapy and Sports Performance and as a director for the MAINEiax Lacrosse Club from 2012-2013, responsible for all operations of the organization, including coaching private lessons and group skills clinics. The MAINEiax represented Maine in 2013, with 6 of 8 high school All-Americans and 15 of 22 All-Conference selections.
Gray was a standout three sport varsity athlete in football, hockey and lacrosse at Thornton Academy. Although, Gray was heavily recruited to play college hockey, he decided to follow his passion and play college lacrosse at Plymouth State University. Gray was a tough two-way midfielder for the Panthers, best known for his speed, physical play, and dominance at the face-off position. In 1999, he led the team with 97 ground-balls and won 89 of 92 face-offs as a sophomore and earned all-conference honorable mention. That same year, Gray transferred to the University of Maine, where he helped establish the University of Maine Lacrosse Club and had an accomplished career as a division-one track and field athlete. Gray was an all-conference multi-event sprinter and thrower for the Black Bears, running a 10.98 second 100 meter dash and throwing 189-14 feet in the javelin. In 2002, Gray received the Black Bear Award for his leadership and dedication as an athlete and topped all strength and conditioning results, including 30 repetitions during the 225 pound bench test. Gray is a member of the USILA, NEILS, IMLCA, MLCA and US Lacrosse.
Gray earned a Bachelor of Science in secondary education from Maine in 2002. Marsh is married to his wife, Jenn.
