John Clark joined the Husson University men's basketball program as an assistant coach in 2012-13.


CAREER AT A GLANCE:

  • Since joining the Eagles coaching staff prior to the 2012-13 season, Clark has helped lead the Eagles to eight North Atlantic Conference Championships, eight NCAA Division III Men's Basketball National Championship appearances and a 238-104 (.696) overall record with an impressive 153-36 (.810) mark in North Atlantic Conference contests.
  • Has coached five North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year selections - Trevon Butler (2013-14, 2015-16), Raheem Anderson (2016-17, 2017-18) and Riles Neff (2024-25).
  • Has worked with two North Atlantic Conference Defensive Players of the Year - Eric Modica (2012-13), Justin Martin (2016-17).
  • Has directed multiple North Atlantic Conference Tournament Most Valuable Players - Mark Zaharchuk (2012-13), Trevon Butler (2013-14, 2015-16), Raheem Anderson (2016-17), Justin Martin (2018-19), Justice Kendall (2021-22), Jeremy Moronta (2023-24) and Riles Neff (2024-25).
  • Has tutored one Eastern College Athletic Conference New England Division III Player of the Year - Raheem Anderson (2016-17).
  • He has guided numerous Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association All-State selections - Eric Modica (2012-13), Trevon Butler (2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16), Raheem Anderson (2014-15, 2015-16, 2017-18), Justin Martin (2018-19), DJ Bussey (2021-22), Justin Thompson (2021-22), Riles Neff (2023-24, 2024-25) and Jeremy Moronta (2023-24, 2024-25).
  • Has mentored five Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association All-Rookie Team honorees - Justin Martin (2015-16), DJ Bussey (2017-18), Justice Kendall (2018-19), Scott Lewis (2019-20) and Andre McCauley (2023-24).
  • He has coached two Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association All-State Defensive Team selections - Justin Maritin (2017-18), Justice Kendall (2021-22).
  • Has worked with two Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association Player of the Year - Raheem Anderson (2017-18) and Riles Neff (2023-24).

  • Has been coaching/playing basketball for over 50 years. 

COACHING TIMELINE:
  • After moving to Maine over 26 years ago, he started coaching at Foxcroft Academy and has been involved in coaching and skill development since then.
  • 2012-Present: Husson University (Assistant Men's Basketball Coach)

ATHLETIC CAREER:
  • Clark played one season at Northern Illinois University in 1975-76, prior to transferring to Eastern Illinois University. 
  • Clark appeared in 12 games for the Panthers during the 1979-80 season, while helping Eastern Illinois reach the second round of the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional.
  • He played with and against some great college and professional players in the summer and winter leagues in Chicago.

PERSONAL:
  • A native of Chicago, Ill. (Maine West High School).
  • Earned a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1982.
  • After earning his undergraduate degree at Eastern Illinois he went on to Northwestern University to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery before moving to Maine to open up his own dental practice in Bangor.
  • He is a Certified Skill Development Trainer through Ganon Baker Basketball, a Certified Strength and Conditioning coach through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and a Certified Functional Strength Coach (CFSC) through Mike Boyle in Boston.
  • He currently resides in Bangor, Maine with his wife, Lisa and they have two children, Marley and Alex.
