Rick Orio was hired in 2021 as an assistant coach for the Husson University football program.

In addition to serving as an assistant coach under head coach Nat Clark, Orio also serves as the program's defensive line coach, after previously serving as the outside linebackers coach.

CAREER AT A GLANCE:
  • Since joining the Eagle coaching staff, Orio has helped guide Husson to a 26-17 (.605) record, including an 14-8 (.636) mark in conference contests.
  • As the defensive line coach, Orio worked with multiple all-conference selections - Tyrek Mann (2023), Bryce Bussell (2024) and Jahmye Tyson (2024).
  • Orio has worked with one d3football.com All-Region Team selection - Tyrek Mann (2023).
  • Orio has mentored one Hansen Ratings All-Region Team honoroee - Tyrek Mann (2023).

ATHLETIC CAREER:
  • Prior to joining the Eagle coaching staff, Orio was a four-year letter winner as a member of the Husson football team as a safety from 2013-16. 
  • In 37 career games played, Orio recorded 146 tackles (69 solo, 77 assisted, 2.5 for loss) with a sack, a forced fumble, five fumble recoveries, six interceptions, eight pass breakups and one pick six.
  • Orio helped guide the Eagles to a 29-12 overall record with three Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) Championships in 2014, 2015, and 2016 and two berths to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament in 2014 and 2016, while helping the 2016 team set the program record for wins in a single-season with nine at the time.
  • Was a three-time team captain for the Eagles.

PERSONAL:
  • A native of Stoneham, Mass. (Cony High School - Maine).
  • Orio earned a bachelor of science in healthcare studies from Husson University in 2017.
  • Currently resides in Bangor, Maine with his wife Alexis and son Titan.
