Since arriving at Husson University in March of 2020, Paytton Hobbs has severed as the defensive coordinator, linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator for the Husson football program.

CAREER AT A GLANCE:

  • In Hobbs' first full season as the team's defensive coordinator, Husson finished first in the Commonwealth Coast Conference in points allowed per game with 17.2, which ranked 35th in the country. The Eagles also ranked 51st in the country during Hobbs' first season as defensive coordinator in yards per game, limiting teams to just 298.1 yards per outing. 
  • Since joining the Eagles' staff, Hobbs has helped lead Husson to a 25-17 (.595) record, including an 14-8 (.636) mark in conference contests.
  • During the 2023 season, Hobbs' defense led the Commonwealth Coast Conference in sacks (25), interceptions in conference games (7), total defense in conference play (339.2 YPG), total run defense (137.4 YPG), had the #3 scoring defense (19.6 PPG) and #3 overall scoring defense (23.6). Additionally, the Eagles had league leaders in tackles, sacks, tackles for loss, pass breakups, force fumbles and fumble recoveries. 
  • During the 2022 season, Hobbs led the Husson defense to a ranking of 20th in the country with 16 interceptions on the season and the team also led the CCC with 12 interceptions in conference play. Additionally, Husson finished #3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference in scoring defense (19.2 PPG), overall scoring defense (23.1 PPG) and had the nation's leading tackler, Tucker Buzzell with 134 tackles. 
  • During the 2021 season, Hobb's defensive unit led the Commonwealth Coast Conference in both total defense and scoring defense. 
  • The Eagles limited their CCC opponents to 19.2 points per game in 2022 under the direction of Hobbs and allowed just 23.1 points per game.
  • Hobbs has developed numerous all-conference selections during his career - Frank Curran (2021), Tucker Buzzell (2021, 2022, 2023), David Redmond (2021), Kaleb Caron (2021), Antwan Turner (2021), Tyrek Mann (2022, 2023), Alex Brown (2022), Adam Bertrand (2023), Parker LaFrance (2023), Brayden Trombly (2024), Bryce Bussell (2024) and Jahmye Tyson (2024). 
  • Hobbs has directed one Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year honoree while with the Eagles - Frank Curran (2021).
  • Hobbs has mentored one Commonwealth Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year selection - Tucker Buzzell (2023).
  • Hobbs has guided one Conference of New England Rookie of the Year winner - Brayden Trombly (2024).
  • Multiple Noontime Sports All-New England Team members have been coached by Hobbs - Frank Curran (2021), Tucker Buzzell (2022).
  • Hobbs has mentored two DIII All-New England team member - Tucker Buzzell (2022, 2023).
  • Three d3football.com All-Region Team members have been coached by Hobbs - Frank Curran (2021), Tucker Buzzell (2022, 2023).
  • Two Hansen Ratings All-Region Team honors have been coached by Hobbs - Tucker Buzzell (2022, 2023).
  • During the 2021 season, Hobbs coached a defensive unit that led the conference in scoring defense and total defensive. 
  • While at Ottawa University, Hobbs helped maintain a stout defense that was ranked nationally in total defense year in and year out. Hobbs also helped lead Ottawa to a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship in 2014.
  • In 2019, Hobbs led the Dakota State University defense to 19 interceptions, which was good for second in the nation that year. Hobbs' defense set the single-game interception for Dakota State when they recorded six interceptions.
  • Additionally, Hobbs completely turned around the Trojan defense that season, as he led them to a ranking of 38 nationally in total defense, compared to the team's ranking of 85th the previous year.
  • While at Presentation College, Hobbs helped guide the Saints to the fourth best total defense in the nation in 2016.

ATHLETIC CAREER:
  • As a player, Hobbs was a three-year letter winner as a member of the Vermont State University Castleton Spartans football program as a linebacker from 2010-2012.
  • Hobbs was named to the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) All-Academic Team in 2012.

PERSONAL:
  • A native of Middlebury, Vt. (Middlebury Union High School).
  • Hobbs earned a bachelor of science in sports administration and minor in coaching from Vermont State University Castleton in 2014. Additionally, Hobbs earned a masters of business administration from Ottawa University in 2016.
  • Hobbs and his wife, Brittny, live in Bangor, Maine with their sons, Oakly and Nikko.
