Matt Friedman enters his first season as the wide receivers coach at Husson in 2017.
Friedman arrived at Husson after spending the past five seasons (2012-16) as the head varsity football coach at Skowhegan Area High School in Skowhegan, Maine, where he compiled an overall record of 25-20 (.556). The Indians reached the Class B North Playoffs in 2013, 2015 and 2016 under Friedman, including winning their first postseason game since the 2008 Class A East Regional game, a 36-29 road victory over Mt. Blue High School in 2013.
Prior to being named head coach at Skowhegan, Friedman was the head varsity football coach at Madison-Carrabec from 2009-11. The Bulldogs went 4-22 during his three years at the helm. In his eight years as a head varsity football coach, Friedman produce a overall record of 29-42.
Friedman spent six seasons as an assistant coach at his alam mater Jay High School from 2001-06 before stepping away from the game.
Friedman was a three-year letterwinner at running back for Plymouth State University from 1991-93. He finished his career with 2,503 yards - an avearge of 5.2 yards-per-rush - on 479 attempts with 18 touchdowns. He is ranked among the Panthers’ career leaders in rushing yards (5th), average yards-per-rush (3rd), and rushing touchdowns (7th).
His best season in a Panther uniform came in 1993, when he rushed for 1,179 yards - 7th most yards in a single-season in PSU history - on 249 carries with eight scores en-route to being selected to the All-Freedom Football Conference (FFC) First Team Offensive. The senior captain helped guide the Panthers to their second consecutive ECAC Bowl game appearance in 1993.
Friedman earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Plymouth State in 1994.
A native of Jay, Maine, Friedman attended Jay High School. He and his wife, Kristen resides in Norridgewock, Maine.
