Alex Cardenas returns to the coaching staffing after taking a one year hiatus and will enter his second season as the running backs coach at Husson in 2018.
RECENTLY:
In 2016, Cardenas served as an student assistant coach, helping the Eagles posted a program record 9-2 record, which included reeling off a school-record nine-consecutive wins after falling in their first-game of the season to Alfred, 35-28, who finished the season the 14th ranked team in the nation, while recording another undefeated conference record, 7-0 for the second time in the last three seasons, en route to the program’s second ECFC title and NCAA DIII Championship Tournament appearance in the last three years. However the Eagles fell short of their goal of winning a NCAA Tournament game, losing to Western New England, 44-27 in the first round on November 19th.
PREVIOUSLY:
Prior to joining the Eagle coaching staff, Cardenas was a four-year letterwinner as a member of the Husson football team as a running back and a special teams player from 2012-15. In 16 career games, he rushed for 18 yards on nine carries, an average of 2.0 per rush. As a key component of the Eagle special team units, he excelled on kick coverage, specializing on big hits on kick returners to help minimize kick return yardage, while recording six tackles.
Cardenas helped guide the Eagles to a 22-18 overall record with two ECFC Regular Season titles in 2014 and 2015, the program's first ECFC Championship and berth to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament in 2014.
PERSONAL:
Cardenas earned a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications with an emphasis in Marketing Communications from Husson in 2017 and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Marketing from Nottingham Trent University in Nottingham, United Kingdom.
A native of West Hills, Calif., Cardenas attended Calabassas High School.
