AJ McLaughlin joined the Husson University football coaching staff in July of 2018 and currently serves as the special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach, after previously serving as the tight ends coach and defensive line coach.

In addition to serving under head coach Nat Clark, McLaughlin also works in the athletic department as the director of the Swan Center.

CAREER AT A GLANCE:

  • Since McLaughlin joined the Eagle's coaching staff in 2018, he has helped them accumulate a record of 31-21 (.596), including a mark of 21-10 (.677) in conference games.
  • With McLaughlin in charge of the special teams unit, Husson has ranked towards the top of the conference in kickoff return average, punt return average and punt return defense.
  • As the defensive line coach, McLaughlin has seen numerous of his players earn All-Conference honors - Elvin Suazo (2018), Frank Curran (2018, 2019, 2021), Tarik Smith (2018), David Redmond (2021), Tyrek Mann (2022).
  • As special teams coordinator, McLaughlin has mentored one Commonwealth Coast Conference All-Conference Return Specialist - Nason Berthelette (2023).
  • One Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year has been coached by McLaughlin - Frank Curran (2021).
  • One Conference Defensive Player of the Year has been guided by McLaughlin - Elvin Suazo (2018).
  • McLaughlin has directed one Noontime Sports All-New England Team member - Frank Curran (2021).

ATHLETIC CAREER:
  • Prior to joining the Eagle coaching staff, McLaughlin was a four-year letter winner as a member of the Husson football team as a tight end and a special teams player from 2013-16.
  • In 18-career games, he made three tackles, including two solo tackles, and one fumble recovery.
  • McLaughlin helped guide the Eagles to a 29-12 overall record with three Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Championships in 2014, 2015, and 2016, along with two berths to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament in 2014 and 2016, while helping the 2016 team set the program record for wins in a single-season with nine - at the time.
  • Off the field, McLaughlin was named to the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference All-Academic squad in 2014, 2015, and 2016 and to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society in 2016.

PERSONAL:
  • A native of Dexter, Maine (Dexter Regional High School).
  • McLaughlin earned a bachelor of science in sport management and a master’s degree in business administration from Husson in 2018.
  • He currently resides in Corinth, Maine with his wife, Jahna (Husson alumna) and daughter, Palmer.
