BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University women's tennis team swept singles play on its way to a 6-1 victory over the University of Maine at Augusta on Friday afternoon at Bangor High School.
With the victory, the Eagles improved to 2-1 on the season, while the Moose fell to 0-3.
Husson entered singles play trailing 1-0 after UMA captured two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
The Moose opened doubles action with Hannah Roberts and Arian Gilman earning a 6-4 victory over sophomores Katelyn Cotter and Sadie May at No. 1 doubles. Orlane Bognini and Hayden Hoague followed with a narrow 7-6 win over freshman Grace Hansen and sophomore Elisabeth Kelly at No. 2.
Husson picked up the victory at No. 3 doubles by default with senior Olivia Christensen and junior Mallory Beaulieu.
The Eagles responded by taking all six singles points, including four straight-set victories and two wins by default.
Senior Kayla Lockhart got Husson rolling at No. 1 singles, defeating Roberts 6-4, 6-3, while junior Anah Albert followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Gilman at No. 2.
Cotter continued the Eagles' strong singles showing with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Bognini in the No. 3 position. May completed Husson's four contested singles victories at No. 4, earning a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Hoague.
Beaulieu and freshman Julia Spencer rounded out the victory for Husson with wins by default at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The Eagles are back in action at home on Monday against Thomas College at 3:30 p.m.
